Vice President, Wholesale Sales

Position Location: New York, NY

Hiring Manager: SVP of Sales

Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in office / 2 days remote) 

Travel: Approximately 30-40% or as business needs require 

Approved Salary: $210,000 – $230,000 

Target Bonus: 25%


Position Overview:

The Vice President, Wholesale Sales is responsible for driving wholesale revenue growth and market expansion for a portfolio of men's lifestyle and apparel brands. This executive will lead strategic account development, secure new retail distribution, and deepen relationships with key wholesale partners across department stores, specialty retail, and omni-channel channels.


The primary focus of this role is accelerating growth for emerging and expanding brands by increasing distribution, developing strategic customer relationships, and identifying opportunities to drive market share. The successful candidate will combine a strong new business development mindset with the ability to cultivate long-term retail partnerships and deliver sustainable growth.


This role provides the opportunity to help build high-growth brands while leveraging the resources, infrastructure, retailer relationships, sourcing capabilities, and operational expertise of an established wholesale apparel organization with more than 100 years of industry experience. The successful candidate will have the entrepreneurial opportunity to expand brands and open new doors while benefiting from the scale, capabilities, and support of a market-leading organization. 


Essential Role Functions:

Wholesale Growth Strategy

  • Develop and execute wholesale sales strategies that drive sustainable revenue growth, market share expansion, and increased brand awareness.
  • Identify and secure new distribution opportunities across department stores, specialty retail, and omni-channel accounts.
  • Expand market penetration within existing retail partners through increased door count, expanded assortments, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Create and execute annual and multi-year-old account growth plans to support long-term business objectives.

New Business Development

  • Prospect, develop, and secure new wholesale retail partnerships.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with senior merchants, buyers, planners, and retail executives.
  • Identify whitespace opportunities and open new accounts consistent with brand positioning.
  • Negotiate distribution opportunities, seasonal programs, and growth initiatives that create profitable expansion.

Account Leadership

  • Grow and manage existing wholesale retail accounts.
  • Conduct regular business reviews, line reviews, and strategic planning meetings with customers.
  • Develop account-specific strategies that drive revenue, profitability, and share growth.
  • Monitor sales trends, retail performance, and competitive dynamics to proactively identify opportunities and risks.

Business Planning & Analysis

  • Deliver accurate sales forecasts, financial projections, and performance reviews.
  • Develop strategic account plans that align retailer objectives with company growth goals.
  • Partner with planning and inventory teams to maximize business performance and inventory productivity.
  • Analyze sales performance, market trends, and customer insights to guide business decisions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with merchandising, planning, marketing, product development, sourcing, and operations teams.
  • Provide customer and market insights that influence product strategy and assortment decisions.
  • Align internal resources to support retailer growth initiatives and customer commitments.
  • Ensure flawless execution of seasonal launches, promotional initiatives, and growth programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive wholesale apparel sales experience.
  • Proven experience growing wholesale apparel businesses with major retailers, including Nordstrom, Dillard's, Men's Wearhouse, Macy's, and comparable national accounts.
  • Demonstrated success expanding distribution, increasing market penetration, and securing new business opportunities.
  • Strong track record of building and maintaining senior-level retail relationships.
  • Experience developing sales strategies, forecasts, annual operating plans, and account growth initiatives.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze opportunities and drive profitable growth.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience in men's tailored clothing, dress apparel, sportswear, or lifestyle apparel categories strongly preferred.
  • Existing relationships within department stores and specialty retail channels.
  • Experience launching, scaling, or accelerating growth for emerging apparel brands.
  • Strong understanding of omni-channel retail strategies and wholesale distribution models.
  • Proven ability to balance account management excellence with proactive new business development.
