Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
The NBC Universal Television Distribution division spearheads the worldwide distribution of NBC Universal products across all television platforms, including pay, free, basic, and digital media markets.
Job Description
The Vice President, Sales Liaison (Japan) will oversee sales activities for NBC Universal's filmed entertainment and television products in Japan. This includes managing relationships with Linear platforms (Free TV, Basic & Pay TV) and Digital Media outlets (Pay-per-View, VOD, Subscription VOD, Ad-based Free on Demand, Electronic Sell-Through) as well as FAST channels. The Vice President will play a critical role in developing and executing sales strategies aligned with NBC Universal's global objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership in Sales: Lead the Television Distribution sales efforts for NBC Universal's filmed entertainment and television products in Japan, driving strategic growth across diverse platforms.
  • Revenue Growth: Proactively drive revenue growth by engaging with Free TV, Pay TV, cable, satellite, broadband, digital, internet, mobile, and other platforms.
  • Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, positioning NBCUniversal as the preferred content supplier and partner. Act as the primary contact for client feedback, ensuring insights are effectively communicated internally.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic sales plans, informed by thorough market research and data analysis, to enhance NBCUniversal's market share and create new business opportunities.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay informed about legislative, political, and economic factors influencing the industry, including piracy, intellectual property management, and emerging technologies.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with international divisions and cross-functional teams within NBCUniversal to align strategies and maximize opportunities.
  • Special Projects: Take on additional duties and special projects as assigned to support

Requirements and Skills
  • Industry Expertise: Extensive knowledge of TV distribution, with a deep understanding of both Linear and Digital landscapes.
  • Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to manage change, challenge the status quo, and provide innovative perspectives on content distribution.
  • Client Relationships: Strong connections with linear and digital customers.
  • Sales Acumen: Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed sales budgets, supported by strategic, analytical, and planning capabilities.
  • Negotiation and Presentation: Exceptional negotiation and presentation skills, with a high level of numerical literacy and creative acumen.
  • Attention to Detail: Proficiency in managing contract negotiations with precision.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively present strategic and market intelligence to senior management and interact with diverse international groups.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: Strong leadership abilities, communication skills, and a proven track record in sales, with a collaborative and team-oriented approach.
  • Multitasking: Capacity to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in written and spoken Japanese and English is essential.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree is a plus.
