About the role
We are searching for an attorney specializing in real estate work and private fund formation to support the BlackRock Real Estate business and other illiquid alternatives businesses in the Asia-Pacific Region. Ideally our candidate is a real estate and private funds attorney who will be involved in providing legal advice, consultation and oversight, focusing on a variety of legal issues relating to all aspects of real estate and alternative investment funds, including (i) real estate transactions, management and financing and (ii) fund structuring, marketing and corporate governance.
This position will be located in Hong Kong.
Key Requirements:
Qualified in law with outstanding academic credentials from a nationally- or internationally-recognized university, and five or more years' post-qualification experience as a lawyer in the real estate, asset management or fund formation group within a major law firm, the legal department of an investment management firm or the real estate/alternative investment division at an investment bank.
Experience in one or more (preferably both) of the following:
Fund formation experience and familiarity with relevant local and global laws and regulations (such as Hong Kong SFC and Singapore MAS regulations, the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD), the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and the other U.S. and non-U.S. laws impacting privately offered funds).
Real estate experience regarding private equity real estate in the APAC region (particularly Australia, Singapore, Japan and China), including drafting, diligence, structuring, negotiation and transaction management for real estate purchases/sales, leasing and financing
Demonstrated initiative and accountability, excellent analytical, written and verbal communications skills, comfort with working across different business functions while remaining responsive, and the desire to work creatively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple time-sensitive matters in a fluid environment.
You must have the ability to coordinate complex projects involving different business and support groups and to assist the business in implementing solutions across the broad range of BlackRock products and services.
You should have outstanding relationship-building skills and a consistent track record of working well as a member of a team.
You should approach problems in a business-minded and practical manner and be able to communicate sophisticated concepts in an understandable way, to junior and senior colleagues across BlackRock's business teams.
