The Role

Southeast Building Supply Interests is a best-in-class, people-focused, Regional LBM pro-dealer organization. We are currently growing the SBSI portfolio and seeing a VP of Finance to join the leadership team.

This role will be a hands-on finance lead to oversee accounting operations, gather and analyze financial data and prepare financial reports. Ultimately, you will work directly with the leadership team and CEO of SBSI to drive operations to hit our target goals.

Reporting to: direct line to SBSI CEO, dotted line to Aligned CFO

Preferred Location: Cullman, Alabama

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning, directing and coordinating all aspects of accounting operational functions.
  • Developing and maintaining all necessary accounting policies and systems across SBSI and related subsidiary companies, including general ledger and financial reporting. Ensure that financial reports and documentation are prepared accurately and on time, and according to GAAP standards.
  • Overseeing all transactions related to general ledger, receivables, payables, billing, collections, credit, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics and providing senior management with information vital to the decision-making process.
  • Coordinating, preparing, and reviewing internal and external financial statements including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Managing cash flow and maintaining detailed 13-week cash flow forecast.
  • Managing working capital to optimize cash conversion cycle.
  • Managing the annual budgeting process and subsequent forecasting.
  • Assisting senior management in financial planning and results management. Work with other team members to understand revenue and cost drivers and define appropriate reports for tracking.
  • Managing all tax planning and compliance with all required federal, state, local, payroll, property, and other applicable taxes.
  • Assisting holding company with lender/investor requests.
  • Managing relationships with insurance providers and ensuring compliance.
  • Hiring, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff and building out a centralized finance and accounting department.
  • Interacting with private equity partners and board of directors.
  • Liaise with external auditors and other specialist providers (e.g., year-end tax).
  • Other tasks and activities as directed by the SBSI CEO and Aligned management team.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in finance/accounting or similar roles.
  • Experience working in a ‘hands on’ operational finance capacity with a track record of delivering tangible process and financial improvements.
  • Self-motivated and curious individual with effective organizational and leadership skills.
  • High level of attention to detail with high level of accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and accounting packages (Bistrack ERP and Great Plains a plus)
  • Solid understanding of US-GAAP accounting principles.
  • CPA or previous public accounting background is highly preferred.
  • Experience working in a private equity back environment preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a building materials distribution business is highly preferred.
  • Experience working in a high growth environment with focus on M&A assessment and integration.
