About Palm Tree
Palm Tree is a modern M&A value creation firm that integrates financial consulting, operational consulting, and investment banking services. Founded in 2010, Palm Tree partners with private equity firms, business operators, and management teams through strategic events including acquisitions, carve-outs, recapitalizations, restructurings, integrations, and performance improvement initiatives.
Palm Tree's Data & Analytics practice helps private equity portfolio companies and middle-market businesses build modern, insight-driven data capabilities. Our team works alongside executive leadership to design, implement, and optimize data infrastructure and analytics solutions that provide real-time visibility into operational and financial performance.
The Role
We are looking for someone equally comfortable in a trial balance and a Power BI model. This is a hands-on leadership role in Palm Tree's Data & Analytics practice: you will design the data models behind our engagements, lead the teams that build them, and work directly with CFOs and operators to turn financial and operational questions into reporting they can run the business on.
Our clients are private equity portfolio companies and middle-market businesses, often in the middle of an acquisition, carve-out, or integration. That means real deadlines, source data from more than one system, and finance stakeholders who will check your numbers. Level (VP or SVP) will be set by experience.
What You'll Do
- Design multi-table data models and Power BI semantic models (Power Query, DAX) that tie operational data back to the general ledger
- Build finance reporting and KPI frameworks, from the P&L and balance sheet to adjusted EBITDA, working capital, and budget versus actual
- Reconcile and validate results against the books, using Excel and SQL, before anything reaches a client
- Lead working sessions and presentations with CFOs, controllers, and operating leaders, and turn their questions into clear requirements
- Own analytics workstreams from scoping through delivery, including timelines, quality, and engagement economics
- Review the team's models and logic, set modeling standards, and mentor junior team members so quality scales across the practice
- Find practical ways to use AI tools to speed up analysis and development, within client confidentiality requirements
Who We're Looking For
We know this combination is uncommon. If you are strong in both finance and BI, we would like to hear from you even if you do not match every line below.
- 7+ years combined across finance, accounting, FP&A, and BI or analytics roles
- Hands-on Power BI experience with real data modeling: multi-table models, DAX, and Power Query
- Working SQL, including joins, CTEs, and window functions
- A finance or accounting background, or deep experience building finance reporting: you know how a general ledger is structured and how the three statements connect
- Experience working directly with executives or clients, and some experience leading or mentoring others
- CPA, or Microsoft PL-300 or DP-600 certification
- Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, or dbt
- Python for data transformation or automation
- Private equity, portfolio company, or M&A transaction experience
- ERP experience such as NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, or AS/400
- Base salary range of $150k-$200k, with industry-competitive performance-based bonus and other incentives
- Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Competitive 401(k) program with employer matching contributions
- Hybrid work environment
- Unlimited paid time off (PTO)
- Opportunities for career advancement within a merit-based, entrepreneurial culture
Palm Tree is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by law.
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a similar field
- 7+ years of relevant experience in financial advisory, private equity, consulting, investment banking, restructuring, finance, FP&A, or business intelligence
- Experience leading junior staff and producing quality client results
- Prior experience managing, leading, or supporting a team
- Strong finance and accounting foundation, including financial statements, forecasts, budgets, and private equity terminology
- Ability to analyze financial statements and forecasts, identify performance drivers, and communicate conclusions
- Understanding of accounting principles and financial close processes
- Hands-on expertise with Power BI, Power Query, DAX, and data modeling
- Experience building scalable, multi-table data structures and interconnected models
- Strong SQL proficiency, including CTEs, window functions, subqueries, and complex joins
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience developing AI solutions such as AI agents, custom GPTs, or Copilot-based tools
- Experience working directly with private equity sponsors, business stakeholders, and senior leaders
- Strong analytical, communication, problem decomposition, and business-partner skills
- CPA or CFA designation
- Experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure or Snowflake
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools including Azure Data Factory or dbt
- Experience using Python for data transformation or automation
