About the role

The Vice President of AI & Technology will serve as the technology leader across our growing portfolio of software businesses, partnering directly with the Portfolio Leader to drive AI transformation, engineering excellence, technology strategy, and innovation.

This role is responsible for transforming portfolio companies into AI-native organizations by modernizing engineering teams, implementing AI-first development practices, and identifying new technology-enabled growth opportunities. Beyond overseeing existing technology organizations, the VP will help incubate new AI-native businesses, support M&A diligence and integration, and establish portfolio-wide standards for engineering, security, architecture, and technology operations.

This is a highly strategic, hands-on leadership role that blends technology, product, operations, and venture creation.

Key Responsibilities

AI Strategy & Transformation

  • Serve as the portfolio's subject matter expert on AI, continuously evaluating emerging technologies, models, frameworks, and market trends.
  • Partner with the Portfolio Leader to define and execute the portfolio-wide AI strategy.
  • Lead the transformation of engineering organizations into AI-native teams by redesigning organizational structures, roles, workflows, and delivery models.
  • Establish an AI-first Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), embedding AI throughout planning, development, testing, documentation, deployment, and support.
  • Evaluate and implement AI tooling that improves engineering productivity, software quality, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive AI adoption across engineering, product, customer support, sales, and internal operations where appropriate.

Technology Leadership

  • Establish portfolio-wide standards for architecture, security, infrastructure, engineering quality, and technology governance.
  • Guide technical roadmaps across portfolio companies to ensure scalability, modernization, and long-term maintainability.
  • Partner with executive leadership to prioritize technology investments that create measurable customer and enterprise value.
  • Standardize engineering metrics, tooling, and best practices while allowing flexibility for individual business needs.

Engineering & Talent Leadership

  • Lead engineering organizational strategy across the portfolio.
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain exceptional technical talent and leaders.
  • Make organizational design, hiring, succession planning, and performance management decisions across engineering organizations.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, speed, and continuous improvement.

AI Venture Creation

  • Identify opportunities to build standalone AI-native products and companies that leverage the portfolio's expertise and distribution channels.
  • Partner with the Portfolio Leader to evaluate market opportunities, product strategy, commercialization plans, and investment priorities.
  • Lead technical execution from concept through launch for new AI ventures.
  • Create reusable AI capabilities that can be deployed across multiple portfolio companies while also serving external markets.

Mergers & Acquisitions

  • Lead technical due diligence for prospective acquisitions.
  • Assess engineering organizations, architecture, security posture, technical debt, scalability, and AI readiness.
  • Develop technology integration strategies for newly acquired businesses.
  • Accelerate post-acquisition modernization and alignment with portfolio technology standards.

What Success Looks Like

  • Engineering organizations operate as AI-native teams.
  • Development velocity and software quality improve through AI-enabled workflows.
  • Portfolio companies adopt common technology standards while maintaining business agility.
  • New AI products and businesses are launched that create meaningful enterprise value.
  • Acquisitions are integrated efficiently with minimal technical disruption.
  • Engineering organizations become a competitive advantage across the portfolio.

Solen-isms (How We Operate)

· Ownership Mindset: We own the mission. We don't wait to be told. We lead, fix, and build as if it were ours. When problems arise, we run toward them, not away.

· Benchmark to Best: We seek out excellence. We measure ourselves against the best and adapt quickly, always looking for the edge that moves us forward.

· Openly Self-Critical: Leaders go first: they surface their misses early, ask for direct feedback, and turn “game film” into better decisions and better systems.

· Disagree & Commit: Leaders disagree openly and constructively, regardless of title or tenure, because truth is how we avoid bureaucracy and benchmark to best.

· Figureitoutiveness: Embracing challenges, fostering growth, and taking initiative, leaders thrive on hard work and high failure tolerance.

· Mutual Elevation: Committed to growth, elevating teams, developing future leaders, and removing barriers to mastery and joy.

· Learn-it-alls: Learn-it-alls, not know-it-alls, embracing failure as part of growth and progress.

· Pioneering: Pioneering driven by opportunity, using first principles thinking and unbound by tradition or rules.

· Will to Win: Leaders relentlessly pursue potential, reject mediocrity, and get what they tolerate.

· Dialectical: We learn through conversation. We ask, listen, question, and evolve — valuing disagreement as a tool for alignment and deeper understanding.

· Frugality: Achieving more with less, focusing on quality, long-term value, and company-wide responsibility.

· Candor: We communicate with integrity, transparency, and respect in all conversations.

· Kaizen: Kaizen is continuous improvement as a way of life. Leaders make hundreds of small upgrades that compound, turning lessons into standards and standards into durable systems.
