We have an exciting opportunity for a Vice President, Actuary - Lead Financial Office to join the team at Ameriprise Financial! This position would be responsible for overseeing all financial results related to the RiverSource Life Insurance Company. Partner with the business areas on forecasting business results and scenarios to evaluate and propose initiatives aligned to business goals that drive ROI. Lead a team to ensure resources are deployed to meet organizational needs. Influence strategic direction for area, recognize business opportunities and issues and makes decisions impacting business financial results. Well versed in industry issues requiring research, decision making and communication of impacts to the company upper management.
Position is currently set up to accommodate a Vice President, Actuary - Lead Financial Office, but open to a qualified Finance background as well.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze all aspects of Retirement Protection Solutions (RPS) monthly results to understand variances and drive decisions to course correct. Provide support and direction to executive leaders on financial results. Research root causes of issues and looks in-depth at current issues and trends. Create and maintain regular reporting of business and financial results.
- Oversee financial aspects of assigned line of business including month-end results, leading annual budgeting and interim forecasting. Lead competitive benchmarking activities and reporting against industry trends. Develop partnerships, support, and consults assigned business unit/department to help form strategic and tactical business decisions that control expenses and support strategic revenue objectives.
- Sets immediate and long-term strategic direction for area.
- Provide people leadership. Manage performance, seek professional development opportunities for each direct report, and provide the mentorship and feedback that are vital to have a strong performing team.
- Provide thought leadership, develops strategies and drives innovation. Monitor and influence potential changes in industry regulations and using the information to find opportunities and actions for area.
- Manage and build relationships with both internal and external clients. Influence and interact with people at various levels across the company including upper levels of the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or a related field.
- 10+ years of actuarial experience.
- FSA, MAAA.
- Strong relationship and communication skills in working with colleagues, influencing customers on recommendations and analysis results.

Base Pay Salary
The estimated base salary for this role is $192,800 - $260,300 / year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role. We also have a competitive and comprehensive benefits program that supports all aspects of your health and well-being, including but not limited to vacation time, sick time, 401(k), and health, dental and life insurances.
