Excela Protect is modernizing the F&I industry, bringing transparency, efficiency, and exceptional service to a space that's ready for change. As we grow, we're looking for a VP, Actuarial & Risk Management to build and scale the actuarial function within our specialty warranty and vehicle protection business.
This is a hands-on leadership role reporting to the President. You'll start by combining executive-level leadership with direct analytical work, then define the team and resources needed as the function grows. You'll have independent authority over actuarial methods, assumptions, routine pricing and reserve recommendations, and the authority to pause and escalate decisions that create material risk. Material pricing actions, reserve changes, and risk limits are developed jointly with business leaders, with final approval resting with executive leadership, the Board, or a designated committee.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Set enterprise actuarial and risk strategy, and own pricing methodologies, reserve frameworks, and governance standards
- Direct reserve adequacy reviews and oversee profitability, loss ratios, claim trends, and concentration risk
- Recommend risk appetite, performance thresholds, and corrective-action triggers
- Lead actuarial due diligence on significant new clients, products, and partnerships
- Partner with Underwriting, Finance, Product, Operations, Analytics, and Business Development on material decisions
- Support planning, forecasting, and scenario analysis
- Help form and grow future insurance structures, including captives, taking on more internal oversight as they mature
- Present findings to executive leadership in clear business terms and serve as our senior actuarial expert with auditors, clients, and other stakeholders
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative field (Required)
- ACAS, ASA, or equivalent actuarial credential (FCAS or FSA, or active progression toward it, preferred)
- Significant progressive actuarial leadership experience with enterprise-level accountability for pricing, reserving, rate adequacy, portfolio performance, and governance
- Experience advising senior executives and presenting findings that shape strategy
- Advanced Excel and SQL skills; Power BI, Tableau, Python, or R a plus
- Ability to evaluate insurance-company economics, capital requirements, and reinsurance structures, through direct captive experience or by working with external specialists
- Clear communication, executive presence, and the ability to influence senior leaders
- Experience in F&I, vehicle protection, warranty, GAP, insurance-adjacent products, or P&C insurance preferred
Why Excela Protect?
- Competitive compensation
- Flexible work schedule
- Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k)
- Paid vacation and holidays
- A collaborative, customer-first culture with real room to grow
