What The Role Entails

The Vice President of Accounting and Finance is responsible for overseeing Dalian Development’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and finance functions, including budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis. This role ensures the integrity of financial information, compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, including HUD loan covenants and requirements, and the development of scalable processes and systems to support business growth.

The VP partners closely with leadership to provide financial insights that drive strategic decision-making, capital allocation, and operational performance. This individual leads and develops a high-performing team, manages relationships with auditors, lenders, investors, third-party property management companies, and regulatory stakeholders, and plays a critical role in risk management, financial planning, capital markets coordination, and overall business strategy.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep technical accounting expertise, strong financial acumen, and a proven ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.

What You Will Get to Do 

  • Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and analytics to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Prepare and maintain financial statements, supporting year-end activities including audits and tax projections 
  • Manage communications with lenders, investors, and partners, including the preparation and distribution of reporting packages 
  • Deliver financial analysis to support capital investments, pricing decisions, contract negotiations, and strategic initiatives 
  • Monitor market conditions and industry trends to inform business planning and investment decisions 
  • Lead due diligence and underwriting activities for acquisitions and development opportunities 
  • Conduct research and analyze relevant data to support investment and development strategies 
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness 
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS and applicable regulatory requirements, with specific accountability for HUD loan covenants and requirements 
  • Develop and continuously enhance accounting policies, procedures, and best practices 
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, regulatory bodies, and third-party property management companies to support accurate reporting and compliance across managed properties 
  • Lead cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning to optimize capital allocation 
  • Partner with the capital markets team to support the sourcing, structuring, diligence, and closing of construction and permanent financing 
  • Partner with executive leadership to support strategic planning, growth initiatives, and operational decision-making 
  • Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and automation initiatives to improve efficiency and scalability 
  • Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies to safeguard company performance and assets 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, tax, FP&A, and operations on complex transactions and business initiatives 
  • Review and approve technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, and capital expenditures 
  • Monitor compliance with debt covenants, including HUD loan covenants and related reporting obligations 
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, including hiring, performance management, and professional development

Requirements

What You Bring to The Role  

 
  • Bachelor’s degree, Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • 10-15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with 5-7+ years in a senior leadership role overseeing accounting functions
  • Sound knowledge of U.S. GAAP 
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, consolidations, and internal controls
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling 
  • Knowledge of debt structures and capital planning 
  • Familiarity with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Yardi or similar) and financial reporting tools
  • Working knowledge of HUD loan covenants, regulatory reporting requirements, and lender compliance expectations 
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and scale high-performing accounting teams
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and talent development capabilities
  • Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Demonstrated ability to support strategic decision-making and influence senior leadership
  • Experience evaluating investments, development projects, and complex transactions
  • Experience improving processes, implementing systems, and driving automation and efficiencies
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with executives, auditors, lenders, and investors

  • Experience in residential real estate finance, with public accounting experience highly preferred
