VINFAST is a pioneering electric vehicle (EV) company committed to revolutionizing the automotive   industry with sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. As a leading player in the EV market,            VinFast is dedicated to delivering high-quality, cutting-edge electric vehicles that redefine the driving       experience. Our team consists of passionate professionals driven by a shared vision of creating a greener and more sustainable future through innovation, technology, and excellence.

In this role, you will join the Motion Planning & Control team that owns the vehicle motion control software behind VinFast’s L2+ driver-assistance and Automated Parking functions. You will design, implement and calibrate the lateral and longitudinal controllers that turn a planned trajectory into steering, torque and brake requests, running in production C/C++ on embedded automotive hardware.

You will work with Motion Planning, Perception, Vehicle Dynamics, Functional Safety, Vehicle Test and VinFast’s suppliers, and you will prove every change in closed-loop simulation and on the test track before it reaches a customer car. Your work directly determines how precisely, how smoothly and how safely a VinFast vehicle parks and manoeuvres itself.

Position Responsibilities

Control design and development

·       Design, implement and tune the lateral (steering) control for automated parking and low-speed manoeuvring, from control concept through to production code.

·       Design and tune the longitudinal control: speed profile following, stopping accuracy, smooth start and stop, and ride comfort.

·       Develop the trajectory tracking behaviour — how the vehicle follows a planned path, including direction changes, gear shifts and the end of each manoeuvre.

·       Build and validate the vehicle and actuator models used for control design, and quantify how well they match the real car.

·       Define and maintain the interfaces between control and its neighbours: motion planning, vehicle state estimation, and the steering, powertrain and brake actuators.

Requirements

Education and experience

MUST HAVE:

·       Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Control Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics or Computer Science.

·       Mid-level: 3+ years designing and tuning motion controllers for road vehicles or mobile robots. Senior: 5+ years including series/production development, able to own a control feature end to end and to mentor other engineers.

Control engineering fundamentals – required

·       Classical and modern control — PID, state-space design, pole placement, LQR/LQG, and a clear understanding of the trade-offs between them.

·       State estimation and filtering — observers, Kalman filtering, and practical digital filter design.

·       Analysis — stability, robustness and performance in continuous and discrete time; sampling and discretisation, time delay, saturation and anti-windup.

·       Modelling and system identification — build a model of a physical system, fit it to measured data, and know where it stops being valid.

NICE TO HAVE:

·       Vehicle kinematics and basic vehicle dynamics — bicycle and Ackermann models, steering behaviour, and how low-speed and reverse driving differ from normal driving.

·       Applied mathematics — linear algebra, numerical methods, coordinate frames and transformations, and signal processing.

Engineering skills – required

·       Strong C and modern C++ (C++11/14/17), clean and testable code, and confidence debugging real-time software.

·       Python for data analysis, plotting and test automation; Linux, Git and CMake.

·       An experimental mindset — define the measurement before the conclusion, quantify uncertainty, and tell a real improvement from noise.

·       Working proficiency in English and clear technical writing.

Topics specific to this role – advantageous, or willing to learn quickly

·       Path- and trajectory-tracking control at low speed: preview and look-ahead schemes, feedforward plus feedback steering, curvature-to-steering mapping, and steering angle and rate limiting.

·       Handling of direction reversals and gear changes inside a controller, and precise stopping and standstill behaviour.

·       Actuator characterisation and delay compensation for electric power steering and for powertrain torque and brake interfaces.

·       Optimisation-based control: MPC/MPCC, iLQR or DDP, and practical use of QP/NLP solvers.

·       Real-time embedded automotive software: fixed-cycle execution, allocation-free control loops, automotive MCU and SoC targets, AUTOSAR, RTOS, CAN/CAN-FD.

·       Model-based design with MATLAB/Simulink and production code generation.

·       Closed-loop simulation and HIL benches; simulators such as CARLA or Gazebo; ROS/ROS 2.

·       Functional safety (ISO 26262), SOTIF (ISO 21448) and Automotive SPICE.

·       Parking-domain sensing and its effect on control: ultrasonic sensors, surround-view cameras, slot detection, odometry and occupancy grids.

  • Willingness to take part in vehicle testing at the test track and in real parking environments.
