Our Vandalia facility is located 50 minutes north of the GE Aerospace headquarters and sits just north of the city of Dayton—known widely as the birthplace of aviation—where the Wright Brothers built the world’s first aircraft in their bicycle shop in the heart of downtown Dayton. This business boasts a rich history, in operation for over 100 years. At over 140,000 square feet, the Vandalia facility rests on 27 acres right off Interstate 75.

At GE Aerospace in Vandalia, we specialize in manufacturing and servicing world-class power generation and electrical control and distribution equipment for a variety of military and commercial customers. Vandalia is also home to a product development lab where operators and engineers work together to invent the future of flight.

Role Overview

Senior production quality leader over the manufacturing process for the Vandalia GE Aerospace site. Drives the quality function’s positive impact  on Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost in that order and timeliness of objectives. The role is subject to the standard operating procedures and policies of the Company , to include high standards for integrity and compliance. There is moderate autonomy within the role.  High levels of operational judgment and strong business acumen are required to achieve quality objectives and adequately support business outcomes.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Owns quality assurance and quality control, with a vision to creating a zero-defect culture. Includes quality assurance of products, services, manufacturing processes. Includes conformance in manufacturing, incoming goods control, product inspection, witness points, cost of poor quality, defects, etc.
  • Manages a large team of quality professionals. Requires specialized knowledge of safety and quality within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the areas of responsibility, including control of resources and influencing policy formulation.  
  • Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes and services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform their work and that of the greater quality function.
  • Use high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operation, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders.  Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and can construct and provide recommendations.  Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
  • Leads cross-functional teams and projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others on specific topics.  Guides others to consider a different point of view.
  • Drives cross-functional collaboration across Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and the customer-facing Programs team to proactively address quality risks, accelerate problem resolution, and enable successful site and program performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree  from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Manufacturing Operations, and/or Production Quality.)

  • Past success with influence others through clear communication, use of data and reporting, and project/change management best practices.
  • Attention to detail, with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to recognize risk and change courses quickly.
