Van Underwriting Manager

Location  – Bexhill or Leicester, with a hybrid working approach

Role overview

The van underwriting (UW) manager will own the development of the next phase of Hastings van UW strategy, looking for opportunities to create value through development proposals that will change how we price, footprint & product design for vehicles.

You’ll need to have demonstrable experience in:    

  • Commercial vehicle footprint management and associated risks controls, rating requirements and reporting

  • Price change recommendations to insure new segments achieve target loss ratio supported through analysis

  • Emerging trends within the van market that could advance our market share through underwriting, pricing & commercial capabilities

  • Developing & delivering new insights, including the integration of new data, new analytical techniques and new ways of underwriting van

Essential skills we would love you to have:     

  • You are a strong communicator, and enjoy articulating problems concisely to key stakeholders at various levels.

  • Experience in underwriting risk controls

  • Strong qualitative & quantitative skills

  • A passion and/or deep understanding of UK PCW market and van market

  • Understanding of current and future developments in the van market

  • Ability to think strategically about long term goals

  • Advanced skills in the use of MS office applications with previous experience of SQL,R, or python

Our interview process involves the below:  

  • Recruiter screening call  

  • 1st round - introduction call with hiring leader

  • 2nd round - technical interview with hiring leader 

  • final round - introduction with hiring leaders leader
