As a Value Chain Engineer in Electrical, Propulsion, Chassis and/or Interior/Exterior spaces, you will be working alongside GM purchasing professionals on the cutting edge of technology, pushing the boundaries of efficient and effective material cost optimization, maximizing commercial opportunities, and mitigating threats. You will collaborate with Supply Base, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Finance, Manufacturing, and other business partners. You will do all this as part of an inclusive team, where differences and unique perspectives are embraced so you can reach your fullest potential as you pursue your career!
Key responsibilities:
  • Support buyers to understand and compare part costs: Confirm supplier cost reporting through audits, build up cost model with the help of GM standards and experts when you need them, analyze and compare costs for opportunities and gaps, and use your analysis and available data to support buyers in the development of sourcing and negotiation strategies
  • Lead continuous improvement and cost reduction activities. Identify waste and inefficiencies at supplier sites
  • Conduct on-site workshops with suppliers, if needed, to develop improvement plans to address opportunities identified through performance improvement tools
  • Monitor/accelerate supplier implementation of resulting improvement plans to ensure savings are achieved and coordinate with the respective buyers to ensure the savings are made.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree is required. A degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or other related areas is preferred.
  • Early career profile: Recent graduates and candidates with up to 0-2 years of relevant experience (including internships, co ops, or project work)
  • Comfortable working with multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams.
  • Ability to deal effectively with ambiguity and a forward thinking environment, with a strong learning mindset.
  • Candidates should demonstrate foundational competencies and potential in: Communication, Analytical thinking and data judgment, Workload and time management, Relationship management and collaboration Vendor/supplier interaction, Interest in developing negotiation skills over time

Preferred Critical Skills (nice to have, not required):
  • Automotive, industrial, and/or financial industry exposure (internship, co op, or project work).
  • Manufacturing/operations experience or exposure (e.g., plant visits, coursework, projects).
  • Capable of interpreting basic market data.
  • Problem solving using structured methods (e.g., basic Lean / continuous improvement tools).
  • Able to read blueprints and understand basic engineering documents, or strong willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work globally, independently, and self-directed as skills and experience grow.
  • Ability to travel (up to ~10-20% of time), including international travel, based on business needs

Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the - Global HQ Warren MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
