The Role

Atlassian is an established, publicly-traded tech company with a growing tax function. We are looking for a State and Local Tax Manager to join our US Income Tax team.
In this role, you will manage all aspects of state income tax compliance, provision, and planning. You will report to the US Senior Tax Manager and collaborate cross-functionally with various teams to ensure compliance with state tax laws and regulations while identifying opportunities to optimize our state tax position.
Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $142,800 - $190,300
Zone B: $128,500 - $171,300
Zone C: $118,500 - $158,000
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

  • Manage all US state and local tax filings prepared by external advisors, ensuring adherence to deadlines, accuracy, and compliance with state regulations.
  • Support the preparation of the state income tax provisions and disclosures, including apportionment and state modifications.
  • Monitor state nexus and filings to ensure compliance with state tax laws and regulations, identifying any potential areas of risk or exposure.
  • Assist with state tax audits, inquiries, and notices, including responding to information requests and negotiating settlements with tax authorities.
  • Research and interpret changes in state tax laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the company and recommending appropriate actions
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve state income tax processes, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.


  • 5+ years of experience in state and local income tax and corporate tax.
  • A combination of Big 4 public accounting and industry experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of state tax laws and regulations, with the ability to research and interpret complex tax issues.
  • Familiarity with tax software (OneSource Tax Provision, OneSource State Apportionment) and financial systems (Oracle Cloud Fusion) a plus.
  • CPA or equivalent license required.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
