US First Line Controls Manager

As part of our continued growth in the U.S., we’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a U.S. First Line of Controls (FLOC) Manager to join our expanding First Lines team at Domestic & General.
In this pivotal role, the role will lead all first‑line control activities across our U.S. operations—ensuring processes are well‑designed, fully documented, and consistently executed. It will oversee control mapping, the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensure we meet both regulatory expectations and internal standards.
It will also guide control assessments, collaborate closely with business owners to identify and address gaps, and drive remediation initiatives that strengthen overall organisational resilience. Acting as the key link between day‑to‑day operations and our second‑line risk teams, it will ensure alignment on risk priorities and maintain clear, effective communication across functions.

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the identification, documentation, and testing of first-line controls across key business processes.
Ensure operational teams understand and execute their control responsibilities.
Lead periodic risk assessments and control self-assessments (RCSAs).
Maintain governance to enhance process maps, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and risk/control matrices (RCMs).
Coordinate with second- and third-line teams on audits, reviews, and compliance requirements.
Track remediation plans, monitor deadlines, and ensure timely closure of control gaps.
Develop reporting on control health, issues, KPIs, emerging risks, and operational performance.
Partner with cross-functional teams to embed controls in new initiatives.
Manage risk events
Skills and experience required:
Proven experience in first-line risk management, controls management, or operational risk within a regulated environment.
Strong understanding of risk and control frameworks, including RCSAs, SOPs, RCMs, and process mapping.
Demonstrated ability to design, document, and test operational controls across multiple business processes.
Experience working with second- and third-line teams (e.g., Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit).
Skilled in identifying control gaps, developing remediation plans, and driving timely resolution.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and produce clear, insightful reporting on control health and KPIs.
Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence operational leaders and embed control responsibilities across teams.
Ability to manage risk events, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Strong organizational and project management capabilities with the ability to prioritise, manage deadlines, and work independently.
High attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining robust governance and accurate documentation.
Proficiency with risk management tools, workflow systems, or GRC platforms
