ROLE: Senior Unix/Linux Infrastructure Project Engineer
The successful candidate will join a highly skilled team of infrastructure engineers providing technical infrastructure design and implementation to central and regional UK Secure Accounts. The role will require a flexible working ethic and a pragmatic approach to IT Cloud and Platform Project Delivery. Successful candidates will have a design, implementation and support background, great customer service and communication skills. They will have a keen interest in innovation alongside a willingness to implement new ways of working and automation.Description of Role
Design, implement and maintain operational performance of large-scale Unix /Linux Server environments in order to meet contractual service levels and agreed Project time frames.
- A highly visible role providing design, support and troubleshooting services on multiple projects at the same time.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical business partners.
- Linux and Solaris Project design, implementation and system administration
- Ability to mentor technical staff and partners to troubleshoot complex server environments and situations.
- Comprehensive and demonstratable UNIX/Linux troubleshooting ability. Contribute innovative ideas, technologies, scripts and initiatives to de liver a next-generation, automated IT infrastructure support operation.
- Work as part of a multiskilled team and Project Management delivering Cloud and Platform Projects for a variety of customers.
Education and Experience required:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience. May hold professional or intermediate-level certification(s) in work field.Candidates should possess at least Disclosure Scotland / BPSS clearance or be willing to undertake appropriate security vetting.
Ideally, you will hold SC clearance as a minimum.Essential Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Red Hat Linux ( versions 5.x-8.x) System Administration
- Solaris (versions 10.x-11.x) System Administration
- Working knowledge of SRDF & STAR storage replication
- Clustering (Veritas VCS, RedHat Resilient Storage GFS2)
- Storage and Filesystems (VXFS, ZFS, EXT3, EXT4, XFS, UFS, SVM)
- Volume Managers (VXVM, LVM)
- CyberArk and SCCM compliant support for CI's
- UNIX/Linux auditing and logging systems
- Networking
- LDAP configuration Server/Client
- UNIX/Linux Software Patching
Desirable skills and knowledge/certifications
- Virtualization (VMware, Solaris Zones and Containers)
- EMC SAN Storage
- Scripting (Shell, Python, Perl, Ansible YAML)
- Configuration management tools (Ansible or CFEngine)
- Familiarity with AIX (version 7)
