SUMMARY
This document defines the position of Unit Manager – Power and Diaphragm NaOH. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall direction and leadership within the departments. The incumbent will also ensure maximum profitability of the Lake Charles South plant by developing and executing short-term and long-term operating and maintenance plans; establishing standards of performance and enforcing compliance with Company rules, policies and procedures and all environmental and safety policies and permits.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
Accountable for all aspects of the areas managed (safety, environmental, quality, production, financial)
Accountable for the strategic profitability and compliance/regulatory aspects of the areas managed
Accountable for the financial performance (capital, expense, overall budgetary performance) of the areas managed
Manage subordinates, including accountability for discipline, performance management, and employee development
Operate unit budgets and forecasting including capital, maintenance, and operations budget oversight
Assume ultimate responsibility for compliance with safety and environmental laws and permits regarding air, water, and waste handling
Assure Westlake Lake Charles South is the best in quality performance by meeting customer requirements 100% of the time, providing facilities and expertise for monitoring product quality, developing specialized techniques, and conducting special investigative work in support of customer and/or plant needs
Maintain oversight and direction for driving reliability and maintenance efforts within the areas managed
Promote and lead Westlake’s Continuous Improvement Process activities as part of the department team
Manage the long-term strategic plan for filling vacancies, training, and personnel development needs
Set unit goals and expectations
Coordinate activities and support between different work groups. Communicate and interact with departments to ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.
Ensure that timely and accurate production forecasts are provided
Manage issues that have major impact on plant capabilities (e.g. storage tanks out of service, etc.)
Ensure consistency in all disciplinary issues
Assure accurate, fair, and equitable evaluations are completed for the area
Review and approve requisitions
Manage external utility customers
Oversee execution of external customer contracts
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
Fully support Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
Any additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned.
Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of others.
Promptly report Safety, Health or Environmental issues or incidents to management.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. degree in engineering or related fields
10 years of chemical production experience with five in progressive supervisor positions.
Candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
