Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant in our Ocean Marine Team.
As an Underwriting Assistant, you’ll manage policy submissions and ensure timely processing and delivery of quotes, binders, and policies to producers, meeting established service standards. You’ll also support the underwriting team by providing technical analysis and insights to help evaluate risk and inform decisions.

What you’ll be doing:
Partner with underwriters in the end-to-end processing of new and renewal business
Evaluate new and renewal submissions against prescribed criteria to determine completeness; documents outstanding items and include them in communication to an underwriter for review.
Assists in the follow-up and securing of outstanding items from the broker.
Prepare documents for rating
Analize loss information and prepare summary documentation
Review policies and forms for accuracy and completeness.
Communicate regularly with brokers to assure customer service
Proactively communicate with producers for any outstanding information and ensure timely follow-up to support the underwriting process
Provide backup support to team members to ensure continuity of operations and maintain service standards
What you’ll bring:
Minimum 3 years of related underwriting support experience (preferred)
Technical capabilities such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
Excellent communication (both written and verbal) skills
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Team player willing to contribute to the whole of the company
Must demonstrate the ability to multitask and work under limited supervision
Salary Range: $55,000.00 – $85,000.00 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
