BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION
The Finance group provides financial services to CIBC’s businesses through effective governance and decision support processes. These services include financial, management and regulatory reporting, maintenance of accounting records and internal controls, financial analysis and planning, tax planning and compliance, treasury, global sourcing and payment processing, regular reviews of business line performance, corporate real estate and liaison with CIBC’s investors. In addition, Finance assists Corporate Development in providing financial advice regarding CIBC’s business opportunities and transactions.
OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTION
The London Business Initiatives and Analytics (BIA) team provides expert information, advice and decision-making support to facilitate the success of CIBC Global Markets and Treasury businesses. London BIA provides three key services to our clients: daily financial estimates (DFE), accounting and control, and new business initiatives and analytics support.
The team is accountable for supporting the delivery of new initiatives and providing finance assistance for production issues impacting the UK Front Office and Finance. It is also accountable for the integrity and timeliness of gross revenue reporting; namely Profit and Loss (P&L) reconciliation and decomposition, and providing expert analytical support to Senior Management on their daily P&L.
DFE production is for London Equity Derivatives (including Global Equity Margin Derivatives & Delta one), London and Asia Interest Rate Derivatives and the Toronto XVA Management Group.
JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY
The BIA (DFE) team provides analysis, explanation and support across all areas of DFE reporting (including IPV) for London Controlled Businesses (and XVA Management Group in Toronto), and supports these and other local businesses in the delivery of new initiatives and process improvements, whilst maintaining key governance and control
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Production and Analytics:
- Review, Monitor and Analyze Trading portfolio on a daily basis
- Provide accurate reporting of PnL/DFE numbers across Equity Derivative, Interest Rate Derivative and XVA Management businesses.
- Provide explanation around daily P&L numbers including analysis of P&L fluctuations and significant drivers for senior management reporting.
- Understand and be comfortable with the relationship between the numbers being reported as part of the daily P&L and the resultant accounting and balance sheets that are attested to by the Accounting group in Toronto.
- Specific focus on source system to GL reconciliations, understanding breaks and improving set up.
- Consolidation and review of London business and entity DFE commentary.
- Review, explain and communicate IPV results to key stakeholders for London BIA business lines.
- Contribute to the completion and accuracy of month end and quarter end reporting.
- Initiate analysis to provide recommendations for improvements to enhance business efficiency and support.
- Be constantly aiming to automate and improve processes.
- Act as liaison point between other infrastructure areas on reporting processes as they relate to production issue resolution.
- Provide local governance and control across all areas of trading.
Initiatives:
- Act as Finance point of contact for assigned London businesses and XVA Management on DFE and IPV related queries and requests, accountable for communicating status and resolution.
- Act as liaison point between other infrastructure areas on reporting processes as it relates to new initiatives and products.
- Contribute to BIA (DFE) team projects and initiatives.
- Represent London BIA (DFE) on various project teams interacting with peers and business partners.
- Act as advisory service to other Finance groups to promote continuous improvement to process.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Frequent contact with CIBC Front Office to understand daily and ad hoc requests or new initiatives.
- Regular contact with CIBC Operations on ad hoc queries and initiatives to understand the impact of their process on Finance.
- Frequent contact with Finance Analysts based in Toronto to review and discuss details on reporting and accounting.
- Frequent contact with CIBC Finance, Risk Management, Business Management and Accounting Policy with respect to ad hoc queries and new initiatives.
- Occasional or as assigned contact with internal and external auditors, control division and compliance with regard to processes and controls.
- Contact with CIBC Technology on new releases regarding testing of data and functionality, ad hoc queries and impacts of new initiatives.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Educated to degree level with minimum 2.1 grade or applicable
- Preferable experience working in the financial services industry with particular experience or knowledge across any of the following business areas – Equity and Interest Rate derivatives, Collateral and XVA Management, Fixed Income
- Knowledge of Alteryx desirable although not a pre requisite
- Well-developed organization and prioritization skills in order to handle multiple tasks (prioritizing daily work with various project work and demands of client base) within an extremely dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills to develop and maintain productive working relationships on complex issues with the staff and management of Front Office, Risk Management, Technology, and Finance
- Self-motivated team player with a flexible approach to problem solving
- Able to accept and take responsibility
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Control orientated with a thorough and analytical approach
- Well-developed PC skills, especially Microsoft Excel
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Role operates within a normal office environment with minimal risk of ill-health or injury;
- Hybrid working model offering work-from-home and work-from office flexibility
- Work pressures caused by concentration on analytical work, conflicting priorities and project timelines can be significant in this type of role.
- Must be able to focus on projects for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to handle the pressure of tight deadlines and occasional heavy workload
