Description

Heidtman Tubular Products, a Heidtman Steel company, is looking for a 3rd shift (10:30 PM - 7:00 AM) Production Supervisor for our Tube Mill operations at our Erie, MI facility. Training for this position will be during 1st shift hours.

  

The Tube Mill Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating tube mill operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This is a hands-on leadership role that oversees daily operations, employee development, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring production goals, quality standards, and safety requirements are met. The supervisor works closely with production, maintenance, quality, and management teams to support overall plant performance.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily tube mill operations to meet production schedules, quality standards, and cost objectives.
  • Develop and adjust production schedules as needed to support customer and business requirements.
  • Supervise mill changeovers, start-ups, and shutdowns to ensure efficiency and minimal downtime.
  • Actively participate in breakdowns, bottlenecks, and scheduled downtime to restore operations quickly.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Train, coach, and develop tube mill employees to improve performance, skill levels, and engagement.
  • Provide hands-on leadership by working alongside employees on the shop floor as needed.
  • Manage employee timesheets, training records, and disciplinary actions in coordination with HR.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels by assisting with interviews and finding coverage for vacations and call-offs.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure all products meet quality requirements and support quality audits as needed.
  • Complete and maintain all required production, operating, and quality reports accurately and on time.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and cost control.

Maintenance & Safety

  • Communicate equipment irregularities or malfunctions to management and maintenance teams.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with repairs and preventative maintenance activities as required.
  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations to maintain a clean, safe, and organized workplace.
  • Promote safe work practices and actively address unsafe conditions or behaviors.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with other supervisors, production teams, maintenance, and quality departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Communicate expectations, priorities, and performance feedback clearly and professionally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support plant objectives.

Requirements

  

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Prior steel industry experience required; tube mill experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work overtime and adapt to changing production demands.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, including experience with production reporting systems and      Microsoft Office.
  • Quality audit experience preferred, specifically ISO 9001.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform hands-on tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond quickly to equipment issues or production interruptions.
