The Tribal Liaison implements CareSource’s strategy to establish relationships and pursue partnerships with Tribes, Urban Indian Health Programs, and Indian Health Services within CareSource’s Nevada Medicaid service area by conducting outreach and serving as the primary contact for Federally Recognized Tribes and Urban Indian Health Programs in Nevada. The Tribal Liaison is tasked with various functions aimed at enhancing the physical and behavioral health of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities and members. By fostering a culturally responsive approach and leveraging their knowledge and expertise, the Tribal Liaison helps CareSource strengthen relationships and collaborate effectively with sovereign tribal nations. This role will communicate with network providers, members, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated efforts. There is weekly travel throughout the state of Nevada.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the development of the strategic framework that will foster and strengthen understanding and engagement between CareSource, Tribal communities, and the Indian Health Services in the Nevada Medicaid service area.
  • Schedule regular meetings with Tribal representatives and key stakeholders, and other ad-hoc meetings as needed, to discuss issues of concern and interest. 
  • Visit federally recognized tribe and Tribal Health Centers to  initiate outreach and identify key stakeholders within each tribe/tribal health center.
  • Promote services and programs to improve the health of AI/AN communities and members, and assist in the development of educational and awareness materials.
  • Attend training to expand knowledge of principles that are foundational to working with and understanding tribal health systems.
  • Develop and conduct training and technical support for CareSource staff, health providers, and others working with tribal health systems.
  • Collaborate with tribal-cultural and prevention programs to expand services in the areas of Public Health and Behavioral Health.
  • Communicate  issues or areas of concern related to Tribal/Urban Indian Health Programs to department leadership.
  • Actively participate in internal and external committees, workgroups, and taskforces when knowledge, skills, and experience may be useful to the committees’ purposes, including but not limited to, Government Relations and Medicaid Leadership Team.
  • Stay abreast of laws and regulations that may affect the organization’s policies and procedures. Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements as it pertains to tribal affairs.
  • Collaborate with regional leaders and key departments on potential business development activities and opportunities to advance corporate strategic goals.
  • Participate in various strategic and internal committees to disseminate information within the organization and represent company philosophy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience is required, preferably in the area of public health, public policy, or a related field
  • A minimum of three (3) years of health plan experience  with AI/AN tribal entities and programs is required
  • Experience with the Indian Health Services/Tribal Health/Urban Indian Health Program delivery system, participation in the development and implementation of community health improvement plans and initiatives, and interacting with state and local policymakers, concerning Tribal affairs and interests is preferred

  • Knowledge of national health care delivery trends, new technologies and statewide and national economic issues affecting tribal health programs and the health and wellbeing of AI/AN communities and members
  • Knowledge and understanding of government-to-government relationships between states and sovereign tribal nations
  • Intermediate proficiency level with Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Licensure and Certification:

  • Must have valid driver’s license, vehicle and verifiable insurance.   Employment in this position is conditional pending successful clearance of a driver’s license record check and verified insurance.  If the driver’s license record results are unacceptable, the offer will be withdrawn or, if employee has started employment in position, employment in the position will be terminated. 
  • To help protect our employees, members, and the communities we serve from acquiring communicable diseases, Influenza vaccination is a requirement of this position. CareSource requires annual proof of Influenza vaccination for designated positions during Influenza season (October 1 – March 31) as a condition of continued employment. Employees hired during Influenza season will have thirty (30) days from their hire date to complete the required vaccination and have record of immunization verified.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a mobile position, meaning that regular travel to different work locations, including homes, offices or other public settings, is essential.  Will be exposed to weather conditions typical of the location and may be required to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
  • Must reside in the same territory they are assigned to work in; exceptions may be considered, due to business need
  • May be required to travel greater than 50% of time to perform work duties
  • Required to use general office equipment, such as a telephone, photocopier, fax machine, and computer
  • Flexible hours, including possible evenings and/or weekends as needed to serve the needs of our members

Compensation Range:

$72,200.00 - $115,500.00

CareSource takes into consideration a combination of a candidate’s education, training, and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required for the role, and other external and internal data when establishing a salary level. In addition to base compensation, you may qualify for a bonus tied to company and individual performance.
