What will you be doing?

  • You will own the end‑to‑end Transaction Monitoring framework for Latin America, leading the regional team, driving continuous improvement of controls, and acting as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, partners, and regulators.
  • You will:
  • Lead and develop the Latin America Transaction Monitoring team, ensuring high performance, strong collaboration, and a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the primary liaison of LATAM Transaction Monitoring with other Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) functions, including local compliance officers and other FCC regional leaders, aligning monitoring activities with global and regional financial crime strategies.
  • Handle audits and inquiries related to Transaction Monitoring from internal and external auditors and regulators, coordinating responses, evidence, and remediation actions as needed.
  • Work closely with engineering, data, and compliance teams to refine AML rules, improve data availability and data quality, and support both regulatory and internal reporting requirements.
  • Partner with the Data Compliance team to design, implement, and monitor rules and scenarios from a technical and data perspective, ensuring that models and thresholds are risk‑based and effective.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for partners, payment providers, and banks on Transaction Monitoring‑related topics, ensuring alignment on expectations, SLAs, and regulatory obligations.
  • Lead automation initiatives for pre‑ and post‑transaction controls, optimizing the balance between risk mitigation, operational efficiency, and merchant experience.
  • Review, improve, and authorize monitoring processes, with a focus on reducing friction for merchants while maintaining robust compliance with applicable AML/CFT regulations and internal policies.
  • Develop and execute strategies to maintain and appropriately increase the relevance of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs/SARs) as operations grow, while ensuring high‑quality alert triage, investigation, and documentation.
  • Implement quality assurance controls across different levels of analysis, including manual reviews and automated alert closure models, to ensure consistency, accuracy, and regulatory soundness.
  • Create, maintain, and enhance dashboards, reports, and KPIs for Transaction Monitoring, ensuring information is reliable, up‑to‑date, and easily understood by senior management and key business stakeholders.
  • Perform ongoing monitoring of AML/CFT metrics, investigate anomalies, and help identify emerging patterns, typologies, or areas where additional controls or rule tuning may be needed.
  • Manage and interpret large volumes of transactional data to detect unusual behaviors, trends, and potential financial crime risks.
  • Propose and implement efficient monitoring rules and controls that ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements and best practices, while supporting business scalability.
  • Design and implement Transaction Monitoring controls for new products offered by dlocal, including those linked to virtual assets, ensuring that new offerings are launched with appropriate risk‑based safeguards.

What skills do you need?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in high‑growth fintech, payments, or technology‑driven financial services environments.
  • 5+ years of experience in Financial Crime Compliance (FCC), AML & CFT matters with a strong focus on Transaction Monitoring.
  • Demonstrated experience in Transaction Monitoring frameworks, including alert generation, case management, and Suspicious Activity/Transaction Reports (SARs/STRs).
  • 4+ years of experience in leadership roles (e.g., Manager, Lead), including direct responsibility for managing and developing sizable or complex teams.
  • Proven track record of leading and developing high‑performing teams, fostering a collaborative, feedback‑oriented environment.
  • Solid experience working with regulatory bodies and managing SAR/STR filings, inquiries, and remediation.
  • Strong understanding of the global and regional financial crime regulatory landscape, particularly as it applies to payments, fintech, and/or financial institutions in Latin America.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate complex concepts and data into clear messages for technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages relevant to Latin America (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese) are a strong advantage.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives, priorities, and stakeholders in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.

  • Nice to have

  • Experience in virtual asset or crypto‑related companies, particularly in designing or operating AML/CFT frameworks for virtual assets.
  • Data analytics skills (e.g., working with large datasets, basic SQL, dashboards, and visualization tools), enabling effective collaboration with data and engineering teams and more hands‑on rule and model refinement.
  • Professional certifications in AML/Compliance (e.g., ACAMS, ICA, equivalent) and/or experience with model validation, machine‑learning‑based monitoring, or advanced analytics.
