We have an exciting opportunity for an early career traffic engineer to contribute to high-quality project delivery while continuing to develop technical capability alongside experienced professionals in a supportive, collaborative environment.
The role offers the opportunity to be actively involved in the analysis, design, delivery and assessment of traffic engineering solutions, supporting outcomes that meet client expectations, regulatory requirements and SMEC’s commitment to excellence.
Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Undertake transport engineering analysis and supporting technical tasks for projects, including intersection and network performance analysis, applying sound engineering judgement to deliver practical, compliant and high‑quality outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with project team members and stakeholders to support coordinated, timely and high‑quality project delivery across transport planning and advisory assignments
- Support the commercial performance of projects through efficient task delivery, accurate use of business systems, and contribution to technical reporting and proposal preparation on smaller projects
- Plan and manage personal workloads effectively across multiple tasks, meeting deadlines while progressively building transport planning capability, professional judgement and industry knowledge
About You
You are a motivated traffic engineer who enjoys working across transport and infrastructure projects, with a passion for in multi-modal transport projects (including active transport, public transport and road safety).
Suitable applicants will have:
- Tertiary degree in Engineering or equivalent
- Working towards RPEQ
- Developing traffic engineering capability within the transport industry
- Demonstrated capability undertaking traffic engineering tasks across a broad range of transport projects, with increasing independence
- Commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery, including scope, risk and time management
- Ability to prepare technical reports and supporting documentation
- Ability to work effectively within collaborative, multidisciplinary project teams
