Function/ Position Description:
Liaise with the Design and Manufacturing Engineering functions to understand assembly and testing requirements and provide custom tooling fixture and material handling system solutions that fulfill Applied Materials ergonomics standards.
Key Performance Indicators
- Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot a broad range of complex mechanical issues related to assembly, testing, and manufacturing processes.
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of custom material handling systems, tooling, and fixtures to support production and operational requirements.
- Execute engineering projects in collaboration with Applied Materials (AMAT) suppliers, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to technical specifications.
- Serve as the primary technical interface for internal and external stakeholders, addressing mechanical design challenges and project-related issues.
- Define and develop requirements for material handling systems, including system architecture, conceptual design, verification, and validation strategies.
- Manage tooling programs and projects from concept through deployment, ensuring alignment with business and operational objectives.
- Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and technical evaluations for complex custom-designed components, assemblies, and OEM equipment selection.
- Plan, coordinate, execute, and document engineering tests, and generate comprehensive test reports to support design validation and performance assessments.
- Develop, review, and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, drawings, and technical reports to ensure compliance with quality and design standards.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely completion of material handling unit designs.
- Present developed ideas and drawings for alternative approaches.
- Coordinate with vendors for various developments and resolve any issues.
- Required knowledge includes thorough understanding of mechanical engineering design, mechanics, and material science concepts and techniques, including proficiency in solving engineering problems; basic knowledge of electrical engineering disciplines; working knowledge of CAD tools; understanding of product and business requirements; and general knowledge of appropriate materials, components, and technologies used in the semiconductor equipment industry.
Qualification:
Required: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering with all the above criteria.
Desirable: Engineering degree or equivalent qualification with strong knowledge of mechanical engineering, material handling, or automation fixture design.
Experience:
Number of years: Minimum 8–15 years of experience in the design and development of SPMs, assembly line automation, and fixture design in a development or manufacturing organization.
Required Skill Sets:
- Strong knowledge of automated fixture design, material selection, machining and fabrication processes, and post-processing operations.
- Hands-on experience in creating specifications for mechanisms and selecting the right OEMs to complement the specified mechanism.
- Thorough knowledge of calculations to define structures and loads, select the right OEMs and accessories available in the market, such as linear guides, casters/wheels, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and lifting hoist accessories.
- Good knowledge of sheet metal applications wherever necessary.
- Proficient in creating manufacturing drawings and defining tolerances with GD&T. Certification in GD&T will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in UG NX is an added advantage. Hands-on experience with structural analysis tools such as Ansys or Nastran is desirable.
Desirable:
All the above required skills, along with knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, or mechatronics, SPMs /Automation will be an added advantage.
