Tool Room CNC Machinist- 3rd shift

ABB St. Louis is seeking a Tool Room CNC Machinist with machining experience to support our stamping die operations.

The Opportunity: Work with both manual and CNC machine tools in a well-equipped tool room. You'll support the repair and maintenance of forming and progressive stamping dies while working alongside experienced tool and die makers.

Responsibilities: • Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools • Support die repair and maintenance operations • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints • Perform precision machining operations • Use measuring instruments and quality control tools • Take on increasing responsibility as you demonstrate capability • Follow all safety protocols and procedures

Qualifications: • Machining experience required (manual and/or CNC) • Ability to read technical drawings • Experience with measuring instruments preferred • Strong attention to detail and quality • Safety-focused mindset

Safety: All required PPE provided (hard hat, face shield, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes)

Responsibilities :

  • Programming and setup:

Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions and tolerances. 

Program CNC machines using G-code or CAM software. 

Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials for each job. 

  • Operation and production:

Set up, operate, and disassemble manual and CNC machine tools like mills and lathes. 

Monitor machine speeds and operations to maintain accuracy and quality. 

Produce, repair, and modify precision tools, dies, molds, and other parts. 

  • Quality control and maintenance:

Inspect finished products using precision measuring tools to ensure they meet specifications. 

Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on machinery. 

Troubleshoot machine or programming issues. 

  • Safety and collaboration:

Adhere to safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). 

Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other team members. 

Maintain a clean and organized work environment. 

Requirements :

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Technical training in machining or manufacturing is required with up to 4 years into an apprenticeship program.
  • Proficiency with blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming (G-code) and CAM software.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
  • Progressive Stamping Dies Maintenance experience (Desired).
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Experience with measuring tools (Calipers, Micrometers, Scales, Height Gages).
  • Excellent communication skills and working with teams.
  • Experience in metallurgic knowledge understanding the properties of metals (Desired).
  • Microsoft Software (Office, Excel).

The work model for the role is: Onsite

Hourly pay range: $33.07- $40.46

(Shift premium for 2nd & 3rd shift)
