Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural and mechanical design of DX cooling units, including frame, cabinet, air duct, component mounting, piping layout, vibration isolation, panel and enclosure design; ensure alignment with thermal performance, airflow, piping arrangement and serviceability requirements.
- Conduct structural calculation and simulation: static strength, modal/vibration analysis, shock & transportation simulation, pressure vessel check for refrigerant piping assembly; define structural acceptance criteria.
- Create 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, BOM, assembly instructions and mechanical technical specifications; manage drawing release, revision and technical document control.
- Drive DFM/DFA review for DX products, collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain to optimize structure design for machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, piping assembly and field installation; control structural BOM cost.
- Organize mechanical validation tests: transportation vibration, shock, IP rating, corrosion, noise, tightness test, structural durability; analyze test failure, identify root cause and implement design corrective actions.
- Support prototype, pilot run and mass production ramp-up; resolve on-site structural, assembly, interference, leakage and vibration issues during NPI and volume production.
- Support field quality cases and customer escalations related to mechanical/structural failure, piping crack, vibration, cabinet deformation and air leakage; provide technical root cause analysis and improvement plans.
- Benchmark competitor mechanical design, track new structural materials, sheet metal processes and modular design technologies; propose structural optimization and cost-down solutions for new DX platforms.
- Coordinate with thermal, controls, product and QA teams to translate product requirements into feasible structural design, balance performance, reliability, cost and lead time.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Refrigeration & HVAC or related discipline.
- 3+ years mechanical/structural design experience on refrigeration or HVAC equipment; solid experience in sheet metal structure, refrigerant piping layout, vibration control and cabinet design.
- Proficient in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks / Creo / Inventor), familiar with mechanical drawing standards, GD&T, sheet metal and welding process.
- Hands-on experience with structural simulation tools (Ansys / Abaqus / Simcenter preferred); capable of vibration, modal and strength assessment.
- Familiar with reliability test methods for cooling equipment, packaging & transportation test, IP protection, material selection and anti-corrosion design.
- Knowledge of DX CRAC / direct expansion cooling unit mechanical layout is preferred; understand basic refrigeration piping and assembly constraints.
- Systematic troubleshooting mindset, good cross-functional communication; able to handle multiple tasks under tight NPI schedules.
- Good English reading and writing skills for technical documents and global team communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in data center mission-critical cooling products (DX CRAC, in-row cooler)
- Familiar with refrigerant piping stress analysis and vibration suppression for compressor systems
- Experience leading mechanical design from concept to mass NPI launch
- Experience with modular structure design and service-friendly design for field maintenance
