Established in 1970, Boley Centers, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization serving individuals with mental disabilities, individuals and families who are homeless, Veterans and youth in Pinellas County. Boley Centers is looking for a full-time Peer Specialist to work with the TIEH [Treatment of Individuals Experiencing Homelessness] program and community services departments. The Peer Specialist will provide mentoring services to consumers to assist with the achievement of individualized goals. This position is located at the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office Safe Harbor campus.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Treatment team with assessing strengths and needs of individuals in the program by directly observing/teaching skills such as housekeeping, shopping, transportation, budgeting, medication management, laundry, planning leisure activities, etc.
  • With Treatment team, implement treatment plans that seek to restore a person's functioning in key life roles such as work, family and community.
  • Build working relationship and maintain regular contact with consumers, communicate consumers' needs to the Treatment team and report unusual events, activities and incidents to supervisor or appropriate team member.
  • Assist consumers in accessing resources in the community such as recreational activities, work, medical, dental, etc. and visit consumers at programs or their residence as scheduled or requested.
  • Document consumer and program activities as required.
  • Mentor consumers in role recovery activities such as symptom management, relapse prevention, stress reduction and work readiness.
  • Directly transport and teach consumers to use public transportation to support independence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma/GED equivalency. 

Six months of responsible work experience, preferably involving interactions with the public.

Knowledge of Recovery Model, counseling techniques, verbal crisis intervention and mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Florida driver's license required. Own transportation vehicle and insurance preferred.

Must be a consumer of mental health services as defined by the Agency.

Must pass a Level 2 background check and drug screen.
