Report and write news pieces, often on deadline, with an eye toward the daily newsletter.
Cover news as it happens, including at courthouses, state legislatures, and other strategic locations within your assigned region.
Pitch, develop and write analytical pieces and stories for the newsletter on complicated subjects like legal developments, making them accessible to readers
Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
Establish strategic relationships with sources, editors, news desk, etc.
Serve as a resource for other correspondents and Washington based reporters.
Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
You need to have:
Bachelor’s degree with coursework in English or journalism preferred.
8-12 years’ experience in journalism, including at least one year reporting on subject areas covered by assigned publications.
Demonstrated knowledge of journalism principles and techniques.
Knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
The ability to cover events live as they happen and meet with sources in-person within the location being covered.
