About the Role

The Testing Systems Development Engineer III is an independent contributor responsible for owning the end-to-end delivery of a rig capability or method area, including specification development, design reviews, build, commissioning, and capability certification. This role plays a critical part in developing and standardizing testing methodologies across multiple laboratories while driving technical excellence, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing throughout the organization. 

Key Responsibilities

Capability Development Support

  • Define user requirements and specifications.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary design reviews and manage build and commissioning plans.
  • Execute full certification activities, including uncertainty and guardbanding analysis, Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R), and correlation to engine dynamometers or reference systems.
  • Release capability statements following successful certification.
  • Establish maintenance and calibration plans, lifecycle traceability, and change baselines. 

Global Methodologies, Documentation & Coaching

  • Author method standards, parameter dictionaries, and data schemas in alignment with Data/IT and Product Line teams.
  • Create reference packages including schematics, style-guided control logic, run cards, and datasets under version control.
  • Deliver structured training programs, including classroom and on-rig instruction.
  • Certify operator competence for new methods and capabilities.
  • Mentor Engineer I and Engineer II team members.
  • Conduct design and documentation reviews and support employee development through growth assignments. 

Technical Support & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead complex Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 8D investigations spanning multiple subsystems or laboratory locations.
  • Implement design and process corrections to prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Coordinate retrofits and upgrades while minimizing operational downtime.
  • Perform operational qualification (OQ) and performance qualification (PQ) style re-qualification activities.
  • Align capability roadmaps with product and technology plans.
  • Communicate technical trade-offs and readiness timelines to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate suppliers for subsystem integration and evaluate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) results. 

Continuous Improvement & HSE Excellence

  • Improve throughput, Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and energy consumption per test through automation, warm-start routines, and parameter optimization.
  • Standardize and expand hardware and software module reuse, golden configurations, and template libraries.
  • Integrate engineered safeguards, interlocks, and fail-safe mechanisms into system designs.
  • Lead safety reviews and ensure timely closure and verification of corrective actions. 

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Software/Controls Engineering, or equivalent. 

Experience

  • 4-7 years of experience in rig or method development with cross-disciplinary integration. 

Certifications

  • Six Sigma certification. 

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong engineering fundamentals, including measurement systems, signal integrity, calibration principles, control logic awareness, and system safety.
  • Proficiency with laboratory tools, including DAQ systems, PLC/HMI platforms, sensors, and wiring tools.
  • Strong proficiency with LabVIEW frameworks, PLC standards, HIL platforms, and advanced instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies, including RCA and 8D.
  • Strong documentation practices, version control discipline, and attention to detail.
  • Calibration planning and analysis expertise.
  • Configuration management experience.
  • Ability to support training, coaching, and knowledge transfer.
  • Strong cross-site collaboration and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and procedural compliance.
  • English proficiency suitable for global collaboration and technical communication.

Pay Range

The salary range for this role is between $92,300.00 and $115,400.00.​

 

*Note that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, education, training, and/or experience. In exceptional circumstances, compensation may exceed the posted salary range.​

In addition to the annual base salary this role offers the below:​
