As part of the Truck Technology - Software organization, the department is responsible for ensuring all software and electronics across Daimler Trucks global platforms is delivered to our customers with the highest quality. As vehicles grow in capability, especially in the areas of Connectivity, eMobility, Automated technology, Fuel Efficiency and Safety, our team is critical to the successful integration of an increasingly complex, safe and secure vehicle network. As a Test Automation Infrastructure Engineer, you will build, connect, and productionize the tooling foundation that enables repeatable automated testing across DTNA projects, global test platforms, and regional engineering teams. You will work across ECU test automation tools, Git-based workflows, CI/CD automation, flashing utilities, tool connectors, and rollout support so engineers can create, execute, review, and maintain automated tests efficiently. To be successful in this role, you must bring strong software engineering discipline, practical automation experience, and the ability to troubleshoot complex toolchain, infrastructure, and vehicle software integration issues.

Position offers a starting salary range of $95,000 - $121,000 USD  

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience

What You Drive at DTNA

  • Develop and maintain test automation infrastructure, including reusable utilities, custom function libraries, tool adaptors, and workflow automation that reduce manual setup effort and improve consistency for engineering users.
  • Support ECU Test and ecu.lab adoption through feature requests, custom functions, custom tool adaptors, release pretest support, new platform setup, training support, and onboarding materials.
  • Build and productionize automation pipelines using GitHub Actions, Flowkits/playbooks, flashing automation, and integrations with TechDex-aligned flashing workflows.
  • Establish Git-based engineering workflows for shared automation assets, including templates, branch-management support, static checks, unit tests, package quality checks, reporting, and Git training.
  • Integrate test automation with surrounding engineering tools and processes, including Test Guide project-level tool connections, ETM or test-management connectors, external interfaces, issue workflows, and project rollout needs.
  • Partner with IT, platform owners, vendor contacts, and regional teams to turn prototype automation into stable infrastructure that can be maintained, supported, and scaled across DTNA use cases.
  • Support location-centric rollout across Portland, Detroit, Stuttgart, and Bangalore by adapting common solutions to local tester needs while keeping implementation approaches aligned globally.
  • Troubleshoot complex failures across scripts, pipelines, tool connectors, version releases, diagnostic communication, flashing utilities, and test-platform execution environments.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline with 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks with the highest standards of ethics while developing strong working relationships with colleagues.
  • Working knowledge of automotive software, electronic architecture, vehicle networks, diagnostic communication, and engineering release or validation processes.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting automation tools or infrastructure used by multiple engineering users or teams.
  • Practical programming or scripting experience such as Python, C/C++, Java, or similar languages, with a focus on maintainable, reusable, and testable code.
  • Experience with Git workflows, repository management, code quality practices, branching strategies, pull-request review, static analysis, unit testing, and CI/CD concepts.
  • Experience identifying and solving root cause of complex problems involving software tools, automation pipelines, integration interfaces, data flow, and user workflows.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills and ability to communicate effectively across software, controls, diagnostics, testing, IT, supplier, and regional stakeholder groups.
  • Well organized, self-motivated, able to handle multiple detailed tasks, and able to lead small projects or workstreams with minimal supervision.

 

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Experience with ECU Test, ecu.lab, Tracetronic tooling, or similar test automation environments for HiL, SiL, bench, or vehicle validation.
  • Experience building custom tool adaptors, reusable diagnostic utilities, flashing utilities, or automation libraries for automotive validation teams.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD automation, workflow templates, quality gates, automated reporting, and productionized engineering pipelines.
  • Experience integrating test automation with test-management, requirements-management, issue-management, or engineering data systems such as ETM connectors or external tool interfaces.
  • Experience with automotive communication protocols and tooling, especially CAN, Automotive Ethernet, UDS diagnostics, flashing workflows, CANape, CANalyzer, dSPACE, ETAS, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting global tool rollout, regional onboarding, training, platform setup, and cross-functional adoption for engineering users.
  • Experience in commercial heavy-duty vehicle systems, software-defined vehicle architectures, continuous testing, or connected/eMobility/automated vehicle feature validation.
