About Atomic Machines
Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler™ technology. This full-stack technology enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing for the many device classes frustrated by semiconductor methods and to open up entirely new product classes. The Matter Compiler™ technology fully realizes the digital manufacturing dream: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device – one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter CompilerTM technology – that we will be unveiling to the world soon.
Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.
About the role:
At Atomic Machines, we're completely rethinking how things are built—and we need a Technical Writer with a strong engineering background who can make our revolutionary technology easy to understand. In this role, you'll use your technical expertise to transform detailed engineering concepts, cutting-edge manufacturing processes, and innovative product characteristics into clear, concise documentation. Your audience will include everyone from new hires to engineers and future customers. You'll be part of a small, passionate team shaping the company's vision and products, and your work will be key to bringing a whole new category of devices to life. If you love the challenge of diving deep into technical details and explaining them in a way that sparks curiosity, we'd love to hear from you!
What You'll Do:
- Develop work instructions and SOPs for manufacturing operations that enable operators to easily follow step-by-step processes
- Partner with engineering teams, operators, manufacturing technicians, and outsource partners to document procedures and organize information assets
- Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, accessible explanations
- Continuously refine documentation approaches and champion improvements based on user feedback
- Learn and implement new tools and practices to improve documentation quality
What You'll Need:
- 2–4 years of experience in technical writing, product management, engineering, or field support
- Experience supporting SOPs, work instructions, and/or technical specifications, with experience in manufacturing and engineering documentation; able to help communicate technical concepts to audiences ranging from operators to engineers
- Ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate content creation, improve quality, and streamline documentation workflows
- Startup mentality—proactively tackle challenges, collaborate across functions (from research engineers to manufacturing technicians), and translate technical information into concise documentation
- Understanding of content development cycles and documentation best practices
- Ability to manage competing priorities and communicate schedule changes to stakeholders
- Interest in technical fields, including electronics, electrical engineering, chemistry, additive manufacturing, and materials science
- Growth mindset with eagerness to learn new technology and expand skills
- First-principles mindset—question assumptions and approach problems from foundational understanding rather than precedent
- BS/BA in Communications, Engineering, a technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Bonus Points:
- Experience organizing documentation systems and improving information architecture
The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.

What We Do
Atomic Machines is redefining humanity’s relationship with matter. We see a future where our tools will allow us to reorganize matter at the atomic level at will, where we will go from bits to atoms for any object or machine that can be designed in alignment with physical laws. We have begun our journey with the development of a robotic manufacturing platform capable of making an entirely new class of micro-electromechanical (MEMS) devices. We are well funded and have exceptionally strong product/market fit and a clear go-to-market path for the device we will make first with our platform. Our platform breaks traditional manufacturing paradigms and constraints, enabling inexpensive rapid prototyping as well as large scale manufacturing with highly compelling economics.
Joining forces with us means becoming part of an incredibly talented, inventive and passionate multi-disciplinary team working on a massive world-changing mission. You will have the opportunity to help define the company from its early days. You’ll be challenged to learn and grow as a builder and a leader as the company itself grows rapidly. And you will receive significant equity compensation - you’ll truly be a company owner and benefit financially from our overall success.
