The Developer Content team at DigitalOcean is dedicated to creating and maintaining high-quality
resources that empower users to master Linux, particularly Ubuntu, and other essential tools commonly used for managing cloud infrastructure. Our team is passionate about helping developers, diving deep into technology, and providing content that solves real problems for builders worldwide. We are looking to add a teammate focused on expanding and maintaining our Linux content library, with a primary emphasis on Ubuntu and related system administration topics.
The Technical Writer will play a vital role in creating and maintaining educational resources on DigitalOcean’s Community site. This includes updating and reviewing Ubuntu/Linux tutorials, testing and validating technical content for accuracy and clarity, and supporting the Community site’s content needs. Additionally, the Technical Writer will participate in tasks such as peer reviewing, updating existing tutorials to align with new Linux distributions, and identifying emerging trends in the Linux ecosystem. Ideal candidates will possess deep expertise in Ubuntu and Linux systems and a commitment to maintaining a high-quality learning experience for our community.
While you’ll have flexibility in setting your schedule, we expect some working hours to overlap with Eastern and Mountain time zones (EST/MST) to facilitate collaboration.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Maintaining and updating our extensive library of Linux tutorials with a focus on Ubuntu. You’ll be responsible for keeping content up-to-date with the latest releases, best practices, and emerging trends in the Linux ecosystem.
- Testing technical content to ensure instructions are accurate and reproducible, troubleshooting any discrepancies, and suggesting improvements.
- Researching and writing tutorials on Linux topics such as server setup, networking, security, monitoring, deployment, and troubleshooting in Ubuntu environments.
- Reviewing and editing articles written by other authors to ensure technical accuracy, clarity, and adherence to DigitalOcean’s Technical Writing Guidelines.
- Collaborating with Marketing and Product teams to align our Linux content with broader business goals and increase its reach and impact.
What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:
- 3+ years of experience in technical content writing with a focus on developer content, ideally with hands-on experience in Linux system administration, DevOps, or SRE roles.
- In-depth knowledge of Ubuntu/Linux administration, including experience with server setups, command-line utilities, networking, and security best practices.
- Professional experience in writing technical content for Linux administrators or developers, with an understanding of how to organize technical knowledge to help users succeed.
- Commitment to content accuracy and accessibility by maintaining a rigorous approach to content review and testing.
- Working knowledge of Git-backed workflows.
- Growth mindset and team spirit, with a desire to continuously improve the quality and relevance of DigitalOcean’s content library.
- A capacity to research and learn new technical topics independently.
- A strong command of the English language and an ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible prose.
