The Technical Services Engineer III is responsible for the design, availability, performance, and security of InterSystems’ corporate infrastructure (virtual and physical). This includes on premises, private cloud, and data center environments spanning compute, storage, connectivity, and configuration.
Key responsibilities
- Design & delivery
- Work closely with IT Management to architect systems and services.
- Design and implement IaC and CI/CD workflows across IT infrastructure.
- Maintain, monitor and optimize private cloud and data center infrastructure (e.g., Virtualization and Containerization, Servers, Storage, etc.).
- Maintain, monitor and optimize internal and internet-facing applications and services.
- Take a lead role in evaluation and implementation of new technologies to improve reliability, security, and efficiency.
- Infrastructure operations
- Provide Level I Administration and Troubleshooting for on‑premises data center platforms, including servers, storage, network devices, and supporting systems (power/cooling).
- Provide storage administration and support across SAN, NAS, and DAS, including associated storage fabrics.
- Support Windows, Linux and MacOS server operating systems (administration and troubleshooting).
- Monitor and administer backup platforms; ensure backup health and completion.
- Provide Leadership and Mentoring to junior team members.
- Availability, monitoring & incident management
- Proactively monitor system health and performance; identify and remediate risks before service impact.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues; document root cause and corrective actions.
- Security, compliance & service delivery
- Implement and maintain security controls to protect infrastructure and data.
- Complete operational and compliance checks in line with agreed procedures.
- Fulfil service requests within agreed timelines using established request management processes (e.g., ServiceNow).
- Collaboration, vendors & documentation
- Partner with the Network Team on firewalls, switching/routing, and wireless infrastructure support.
- Manage relationships with hardware, software, and communications vendors.
- Maintain clear, current technical documentation for infrastructure components.
- Leadership & ways of working
- Help to define and maintain a collaborative team culture.
- Support task automation using agreed tooling and scripting aligned with the automation strategy.
- Provide technical assistance to local staff via the ticketing system.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Experience: 7+ years supporting complex enterprise ICT environments with multiple stakeholders.
- Networking knowledge:
- Hands-on technical capability as many as possible of:
- Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID
- Linux administration
- Virtualization Technologies (VMware, Nutanix)
- Containerization Technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Storage administration (e.g., EMC Unity, EverPure)
- Scripting: Python, PowerShell, Bash
- Automation: Ansible, Terraform
- Source control and CICD: Git, Perforce
Education and certifications
- Required: Degree in a technical subject or equivalent professional experience.
- Desirable certifications: Microsoft, RHCE, VMware, Cisco, Palo Alto, ITIL/ITSM, AWS/Cloud.
