PNG Air is seeking a highly capable Technical Services Engineer – Airframe Structures to join its Airline Technical team in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
This role is responsible for providing specialist technical support in mechanical and structural engineering matters relating to aircraft airframe structures. The successful candidate will support continuing airworthiness, maintenance reliability, defect investigation, modification assessment, and regulatory compliance across the company’s aircraft and equipment.
The Technical Services Engineer – Airframe Structures will work closely with the Continuing Airworthiness Management Group, Maintenance Provider, Flight Operations, Quality Assurance, Technical Materials, Planning, vendors, manufacturers, and external engineering support organizations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring compliance with applicable CASA PNG, TC Canada, FAA, EASA, CASA Australia and other relevant aviation regulatory requirements.
- Reviewing Airworthiness Directives as part of weekly AD reviews and carrying out Maintenance Data Assessments.
- Evaluating service literature issued by aircraft and equipment manufacturers.
- Providing technical and troubleshooting support for maintenance defects, failures, repairs, parts, overhaul, modifications, sampling programs and condition monitoring.
- Advising Flight Operations on aircraft operational impacts following modifications or technical changes.
- Conducting technical and economic evaluations of proposed modifications and making appropriate recommendations for embodiment.
- Evaluating technical specifications for new equipment, processes, and aircraft entering service.
- Monitoring and analyzing defects, maintenance findings, and adverse trends, and developing appropriate rectification actions.
- Liaising with approved maintenance organizations, vendors, manufacturers, and external engineering support providers on airframe structural matters.
- Supporting Continuing Airworthiness and MRO teams with technical information systems and engineering data.
- Providing AOG technical advice and assistance when required.
- Supporting other Technical Services Engineers and the Reliability function as directed by the Technical Services Manager.
- Applying safety management principles and supporting the company’s corporate safety policy in all activities.
Requirements
Required or preferred experience and attributes include:
- Extensive experience in aircraft engineering or a closely related aviation technical environment.
- Previous experience in a senior engineering, technical services, continuing airworthiness, CAMO, or airline maintenance support role.
- Strong understanding of airframe structures, maintenance defects, repairs, modifications, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, and technical documentation.
- Experience reviewing and assessing manufacturer service literature and regulatory airworthiness requirements.
- Ability to conduct Maintenance Data Assessments and make practical recommendations for compliance.
- Sound knowledge of airline operations, commercial/private aviation maintenance environments, and continuing airworthiness requirements.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks, including CASA PNG requirements and other recognized aviation authorities such as FAA, EASA, TC Canada and CASA Australia.
- Ability to liaise effectively with maintenance providers, aircraft manufacturers, vendors, engineering support organizations, Flight Operations, Quality Assurance, Planning, and Technical Materials teams.
- Strong analytical, planning, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Mature leadership skills with the ability to support a proactive, professional and harmonious work culture.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Results-focused approach with strong attention to safety, compliance and technical accuracy.
- Relevant formal aircraft engineering qualifications are preferred.
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline are desirable but not essential.
