Coder is an AI software development company leading the future of autonomous coding.
The Role
Lead complex, multi-team engineering programs from definition through delivery. Own scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, trade-offs, and stakeholder communication while coordinating engineering, product, design, security, and go-to-market teams. Influence architectural decisions, manage operating cadence, provide executive visibility, and improve engineering productivity through lightweight processes and AI-enabled tooling.
Summary Generated by Built In

Coder is looking for an experienced Senior Technical Program Manager to lead and shape our most complex, high-stakes engineering programs. You'll operate with a high degree of autonomy, setting the standard for program execution across the organization and acting as a trusted partner to senior engineering and product leadership. The role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution: you'll own the definition, cross-functional planning, and delivery of initiatives that span multiple teams and systems, and give leadership the visibility they need to steer.

What you'll do here

  • Own engineering programs end to end, from definition through delivery and iteration, across teams that don't report to one another

  • Own scope, milestones, timelines, dependencies, and risk, driving trade-offs to a written decision and holding accountability for delivery

  • Work hands-on with engineers and product managers, close enough to the work to influence architectural and interface decisions

  • Serve as the central coordination point across engineering, product, design, security, and go-to-market

  • Run the operating cadence and deliver crisp updates on program health, risks, and trade-offs to technical, executive, and customer stakeholders

  • Improve engineering productivity through better tooling and light-weight process, including AI-native tooling and our own product

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years in technical program management, including complex multi-team programs where no single team owned the whole outcome

  • Deep technical intuition—you can read a design doc, ask the question that exposes the unstated assumption, and argue sequencing with a staff engineer

  • A track record of delivering at scale, including ownership of a dated external commitment such as a GA, a launch, or a regulated enterprise deadline

  • Strong organizational influence; you set the agenda with minimal oversight and move teams that don't report to you, without being slowed down by ambiguity or competing priorities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective with technical and executive audiences alike

  • Judgment to bring just enough process to move fast without losing rigor, and the discipline to remove what isn't working

Our tech stack

  • Backend: Go, Postgres, GCP, Kubernetes, gRPC

  • Frontend: TypeScript, React, Vite

  • IDE Extensions: TypeScript, Kotlin

  • Observability: Prometheus, Grafana

  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions

  • General: GitHub, Slack, Discord, Notion

Interview process

We believe that the interview process should be transparent, consistent, and enjoyable. We value your time and hope to complete the interview process in two to four weeks, if schedules allow. Through your interviews, you will meet a mix of individual contributors, managers, and senior leaders.

AI use during the interview process

As an AI company, Coder embraces the use of AI tools, and we want to be transparent about our expectations as you navigate our interview process.

Not permitted: Using AI assistance during conversational interviews.

Permitted: Using AI tooling for take-home assessments. Please flag where and to what extent it was used in your take-home. Your submission will not be penalized for using AI as long as it is done honestly.

Our use of AI in hiring

We use AI tools to help manage our recruitment process efficiently and fairly. Specifically:

  • Ashby helps us review inbound applications by surfacing candidates who best match the role requirements we've defined. This tool does not make hiring decisions; it helps our team prioritize which applications to review first.

  • Granola takes notes during our interview calls so our team can focus on the conversation with you.

All hiring decisions are made by humans. Our team reviews applications, conducts interviews, and makes final selections. AI tools assist us but never replace human judgment, and these practices are conducted in compliance with applicable data protection, AI governance, and labor laws. Your data is not used to train AI models.

In accordance with New York City Local Law 144, an independent bias audit has been conducted on "Automated Employment Decision Tools"; results are available for Ashby.

If you're applying for a role at Coder and have questions about how we use AI in our process, or if you'd like to request information about the data we collect, please contact [email protected].

Skills Required

  • 7+ years of experience in technical program management
  • Experience managing complex, multi-team programs without a single team owning the full outcome
  • Deep technical intuition, including the ability to read design documents and engage with staff engineers on architecture and sequencing
  • Track record of delivering programs at scale
  • Experience owning dated external commitments such as general availability launches, product launches, or regulated enterprise deadlines
  • Strong organizational influence and ability to move teams without direct authority
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with technical and executive audiences
  • Sound judgment regarding process, rigor, and execution speed
  • Ability to set agendas with minimal oversight and manage ambiguity or competing priorities
