Role Overview
The Technical Project Manager
plays a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of infrastructure,
cloud, and transformation projects across the company’s client base. This role
champions the use of robust project management methodologies, applying best
practices with a lean and agile mindset to deliver high-quality technical
solutions that meet client expectations.
As a key member of the
Professional Services team, the Technical Project Manager oversees the full
project lifecycle—from presales engagement and planning through execution,
go-live, and closure. They work closely with clients to understand business and
technical requirements, translating these into structured project plans with
clear milestones, deliverables, and success criteria. A strong ability to
balance process, structure, and delivery is essential.
The Technical Project Manager
collaborates with cross-functional teams, including engineers, consultants, and
third-party vendors, ensuring that resources are effectively coordinated and
that technical work is delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
They proactively identify risks, manage scope changes, and adapt plans to
accommodate evolving client needs or technical constraints.
In addition to managing
infrastructure and cloud projects delivered by the company, the Technical
Project Manager may be deployed directly into client environments to manage
internal or third-party projects on behalf of the client. In these engagements,
the TPM acts as a trusted extension of the client's team, bringing company’s
project delivery expertise, technical oversight, and agile methodology to
ensure successful outcomes.
This role also contributes to the
development and refinement of internal project delivery processes, templates,
and tools, helping to raise the standard of project management across the
business. Ultimately, the Technical Project Manager's leadership ensures that
projects are delivered with precision, agility, and a strong focus on client
satisfaction and operational excellence.
Requirements
1. Presales
- Advise the sales team on technical delivery
requirements, risks, and scheduling.
- Review proposed solutions to ensure feasibility
and alignment with client expectations.
2. Project Planning
- Ensure all customer projects are well planned,
considering reasonable timescales, contingency, risk planning, resource
availability, and client expectations.
- Support the Professional Services Manager in
scheduling client projects while balancing resource availability and
client expectations.
- Set clear project expectations, deliverables,
scope, and success metrics with clients in accordance with the commercial
agreement.
3. Technical Project
Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients
throughout the technical delivery lifecycle.
- Manage client expectations, communicate project
progress, and support clients throughout infrastructure and cloud-based
projects.
- Collaborate with internal technical teams to
ensure project tasks are delivered on time, within scope, and to required
technical standards and cost parameters.
- Coordinate with external partners and vendors to
ensure third-party deliverables meet technical and operational
requirements.
- Manage project changes, exceptions, risks, and
scope adjustments while ensuring alignment with contractual commitments.
- Provide regular internal updates on project
status, technical progress, and risks.
- Apply agile principles to project delivery while
adapting to changing client needs and technical constraints.
- Provide technical oversight and accountability
for successful project delivery.
- Participate in technical discussions and
contribute to design decisions.
- Maintain a strong background in Azure, Microsoft
365, and infrastructure change initiatives within an MSP environment.
4. PMO &
Continuous Improvement
- Develop and continuously improve project planning
templates, guidance, and documentation.
- Improve project delivery processes to increase
efficiency, consistency, and reliability.
- Promote a lean and agile approach while
maintaining quality standards.
- Leverage automation wherever possible to improve
delivery processes.
5. Client-Embedded
Project Delivery
- Serve
as a client-facing resource, embedded within client teams to manage
internal or third-party projects, applying established delivery standards
and methodologies.
- Apply organization’s delivery standards and
methodologies in client environments.
- Represent the organization professionally while
managing client relationships.
- Provide strategic input and technical oversight
for client-led initiatives.
- Act as the bridge between client stakeholders and
external vendors.
6. General

Education & Qualifications
- Degree educated or equivalent practical
experience.
- Project Management certification (PRINCE2,
PMI/PMP, Agile, or equivalent).
- Technical certifications such as Microsoft,
Azure, Cisco, or similar.
Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum 5 years' experience managing IT
infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing:
· Infrastructure
refresh projects (On-Premises and Cloud)
· Microsoft 365
migrations and mergers
· Azure migrations and
transformations
· Outsourcing projects
(infrastructure, file and user migrations)
· Backup and storage
projects
- Experience working with SME customers.
- Experience managing projects using Waterfall,
Agile, and Hybrid methodologies.
- Experience delivering infrastructure migrations,
cloud implementations, and SaaS implementations.
- Strong technical understanding of infrastructure
and cloud environments.
- Experience working within an MSP environment.
