Job Summary
The Technical Project Lead works with the offering management team to refine product requirements and turn them into product specifications that drive cross-functional team development. This role leads the development teams through the NPD process cycle at a technical level (as opposed to high-level program management) to make sure the end product meets the requirements.
This role will focus on Vertiv Energy Storage product line offerings. The individual will be responsible for understanding product requirements and developing technical product specifications that will drive the cross-functional development teams. This role works through the entire product development cycle to make sure the R&D team stays on schedule and meets the original market requirements. Close collaboration between offering management, system engineering, mechanical engineering, product engineering, firmware engineering, agency compliance, and product integrity teams.
Responsibilities
- Drive requirements refinement, specification development, and task tracking through iterative review cycles.
- Hold authority on system design decisions as they pertain to meeting market requirements for energy storage products.
- Translate detailed technical development plans into simplified project milestones for executive tracking purposes.
- Must track development progress vs plan and manage resource needs to stay on schedule.
- Provide technical support and leadership to product development teams as the first step in the escalation path if issues or questions arise. Escalate major issues to the appropriate resources and pursue to closure.
- Work with cross-functional teams (Offering Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/System Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Engineering Test) to create development plans and strategy and bring products from ideation to concept and market launch. Example development stages:
- Requirements definition and enrichment by collaborating with cross-functional teams (Service, Sales, Manufacturing, etc.)
- Detailed specification breakdown and work/task breakdown based on higher-level requirements
- Concept development and refinement
- Validation test planning and prototype planning
- Full product or platform development and release into the PLM system
- Prototype part ordering and local assembly
- Prototype validation testing
- Final conformance to specification checks and manufacturing handoff
- Track and report on team and individual performance to management and executive leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred)
- 3–4 years of relevant experience in project management on power converters, energy storage, and electrical engineering
- SMC (Scrum Master Certification) not required, but a plus
- PMP (Project Management Professional) not required, but a plus
- Prefer experience with power conversion, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or related power electronics product development
- Prefer experience with power lab testing for converters / energy storage systems
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
- Prefer experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software, such as Agile or Oracle Product Development
- Prefer experience leading teams to show task breakdown, prioritization, and management across a group of people
- Prefer experience with Agile/Scrum project framework
