The Role

Xero is a beautiful, easy-to-use platform that helps small businesses and their accounting and bookkeeping advisors grow and thrive.

At Xero, our purpose is to make life better for people in small business, their advisors, and communities around the world. This purpose sits at the centre of everything we do. We support our people to do the best work of their lives so that they can help small businesses succeed through better tools, information and connections. Because when they succeed they make a difference, and when millions of small businesses are making a difference, the world is a more beautiful place.

About the Team

Xero’s “Catalyst Engineering” portfolio is our platform engineering and developer enablement function, responsible for powering Xero’s engineers and our Partner Ecosystem with the platforms and toolchains to rapidly build innovative, robust and secure products that meet the needs of Xero’s customers. The team are at the forefront of technology adoption for Xero and include some of the best and brightest technology talent in the locations where we operate.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to be responsible for driving business value through our platform tooling, owning new and existing products that empower Xero’s product and engineering teams to deliver with speed, safety and efficiency.

Our key products include our cloud landing zone provisioning, self-service infrastructure portal, networking connectivity and more.

In this role you will manage products end-to-end, working with Product and Engineering teams to help realise the implementation, and drive improvements over time. Your impact will be measured by key commercial and customer success metrics. You will be comfortable working autonomously where appropriate, with the support of your product leadership team.

This opportunity will be working in a very technical space, so knowledge about how software is developed, built, and supported is essential. Strong knowledge of cloud platforms is highly sought after for this position.

What you'll do

  • Work directly with internal customers to research, collect insights or validate understanding, getting support from broader product and engineering functions as required
  • Build relationships with the broader product and engineering teams, collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders
  • Participate in developing strategy for engineering focussed products and tooling to help realise Xero’s technical goals
  • Develop roadmaps with support from your teams to execute on the strategy, delivering value iteratively and rapidly
  • Take responsibility for managing risks arising from non-functional concerns including security, privacy, regulatory change and compliance, accuracy, responsible data use and availability
  • Work with your teams to establish team delivery cadence and rituals, facilitating these as required
  • Monitor and analyse the ongoing performance of a product both from a commercial and customer perspective

What you’ll bring with you

  • A background in working on software engineering problems, particularly in cloud based environments
  • A platform as a product mindset
  • Experience in agile processes, defining user stories, and managing work backlogs
  • Experience defining product roadmaps and supporting long term planning
  • Knowledge of using feedback and data to help inform decision making, and articulate clear outcomes through company and team metrics
  • Able to bring together multiple views and inputs, and turn that into clear and concise requirements to support product development

Why Xero?

Offering very generous paid leave to use however you’d like (plus statutory holidays!), dedicated paid leave to care for your physical and mental wellbeing as well as an Employee Assistance Program to access mental health care for you and your family, free medical insurance, wellbeing and sports programmes, employee resource groups, 26 weeks of paid parental leave for primary caregivers, an Employee Share Plan, beautiful offices, flexible working, career development, and many other benefits that reflect our human value, you’ll do the best work of your life at Xero.
