This Position reports to:
Manager R&D Engineering 2
In this role, you will be the leading expert behind ABB's condition monitoring technology. Each day, you will act as the primary contact in Research and Development (R&D) for subject-matter related topics and for (market-facing) Product Management activities. You will also showcase your expertise by driving the technical direction of development (e.g. acting as product owner in an agile team) and by organizing product maintenance.
The work model for the role is: flexible (onsite/hybrid/Remote). Some international travel is required.
This is a global technology position. It contributes to the Process Automation Energy Industries (PAEN) division of ABB. Main stakeholders are ABB PAEN technology management, ABB local country organizations, industry partners, and ABB end customers.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Development of technology strategy for Condition Monitoring technology in coordination with Rotating Machinery Functional Area management.
- Technical lead to R&D organization, defining specifications and detailed implementation strategies for condition monitoring products.
- Provide input regarding product technology content/development for current and future business based on a solid understanding of ABB´s technology landscape, state-of-the-art external technology, and current/future customer need.
- Technical consulting to ABB organizations around the world, as well as key external partners/customers, helping define system and solution level architectures, and resolving complex technical challenges.
Qualifications for the role
- Master’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 12+ years of experience in managerial and/or technical lead roles in condition monitoring functions.
- In-depth knowledge of Condition Based Monitoring theory and technology is expected and should include vibration monitoring, eccentricity, thrust position, air gap, rotor flux, shaft voltage & currents, performance monitoring systems, advanced diagnostics and predictive diagnostic/maintenance systems.
- Category III Vibration Analyst certification, capable of performing advanced vibration analysis (including spectral, waveform, and orbit analysis), diagnosing complex machine faults, and implementing minor corrective actions.
- Familiarity with ABB condition monitoring products and solutions: MCM800, CMM11, ABB Analyst, WiMon / Smart Sensor, 800xA DCS platform, and SPlus DCS platform.
- R&D level experience developing new condition monitoring concepts, algorithms, products and solutions.
- Application experience developing, customizing and commissioning customer systems and solutions for condition monitoring in different types of plants.
- Functional understanding of different types of power and process plants, as well as different types of assets (gas turbines, steam turbines, air/water condensers, compressors, pumps, hydro turbines, wind turbines, bearings, generators, diesel engines, HV and LV motors, etc.
