The Data Center Engineer is responsible for performing the daily operations related to the data center. This includes managing vendor technician, raising required support cases, changes for the planned activity, ensuring optimal performance of infrastructure, maintaining high levels of security, uptime, and ensuring compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. The role also involves strategic planning, risk management, and ensuring the availability and reliability of data center resources.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operations Management:
• Performing the day-to-day operations of the data center, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
• Manage data center staff, including technicians, engineers, and facilities personnel.
• Implement and maintain operational policies and procedures to ensure reliability and efficiency.
2. Infrastructure Management:
• Ensure the proper functioning of all data center systems, including servers, networking, cooling, power, PDU and other critical infrastructure.
• Monitor and manage capacity planning to ensure data center resources meet current and future demand.
• Collaborate with vendors for hardware and software installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
3. Security and Compliance:
• Enforce physical and cybersecurity protocols to protect data center resources.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ISO, PCI-DSS, GDPR, etc.) and legal requirements.
• Perform regular audits of security measures and address vulnerabilities proactively.
4. Risk Management:
• Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• Monitor and respond to potential threats to data center operations, including power outages, cooling failures, or network disruptions.
• Oversee backup and recovery processes and ensure data redundancy.
5. Budgeting and Cost Control:
• Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising performance or security.
6. Vendor Management:
• Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors, including service providers and equipment manufacturers.
• Coordinate all the vendor related activity and raised required tickets in the system for tracking purposes.
7. Reporting and Documentation:
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of data center operations, including incident reports, performance metrics, and system configurations.
• Provide regular updates to senior management on the status of the data center’s operations and any upcoming changes.
Required Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience:
• 2+ years of experience managing a data center or IT infrastructure.
• Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software.
• Skills:
• Knowledge of server, network, storage, power, and cooling systems.
• Proficiency in disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and capacity management.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with industry regulations and standards like ISO 27001, HIPAA, or SOC 2.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certifications such as Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA), Certified Data Center Management Professional (CDCMP), or related certifications.
• Experience with cloud services and hybrid environments.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies in the data center industry.
Working Conditions:
• May require on-call availability for emergencies.
• Some travel may be necessary depending on the company’s data center locations.
• Physically demanding tasks may include equipment installation, moving servers, etc.
