Tarkett is seeking a hands-on Technical Manager, with a strong background in thermoplastic processing and laboratory testing. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of management experience, leading a team of professionals involved in product improvement. This role will be based in Florence (AL) and will involve managing the research and development team and leading the development of new products for the PVC/plastic flooring, as well as the optimization of current products and processes. Additionally, this position will provide support to the operations team to improve the quality and cost of the products.
What this role is responsible for:
- Lead and manage a team of professional chemists to drive R&D, innovation and product improvement.
- Promote a disciplined approach to research and development, problem-solving, experimentation, encouraging curiosity and deep understanding of products and processes.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance team’s performance and productivity.
- Lead and monitor project progress and report on key performance indicators.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project timelines and objectives are met.
- Lead and facilitate cost savings projects in support of our WCM strategy
- Assist quality in diagnosing claim issues and identifying appropriate solutions
- Use the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure change documentation where applicable.
- Work with outside vendors and consultants on new technologies that could improve products.
- Manage and coordinate lab testing procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Provide mentorship, training, and career development opportunities for team members.
Education & Experience Desired:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a technical role within the plastic processing industry.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Strong project management skills with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong expertise in plastic processing techniques and equipment.
- Extensive experience in laboratory testing and quality control procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Experience in PVC processing is a plus but not mandatory.
