The School of Creative Arts (SCA), comprised of three well-established academic units: the Academy of Film, the Academy of Music, and the Academy of Visual Arts. Established on July 1, 2022, SCA is dedicated to nurturing future-ready talents for Hong Kong and beyond, while making a significant impact on society through innovative research and transdisciplinary studies.   

SCA is seeking a creative, strategic, and results-driven Technical Manager to provide hands-on leadership and management of the audio, video, venue operations, and equipment inventory systems for the Jockey Club Creative Hub.  Working closely with the Executive Director, the successful candidate will play a key role in the development of technical infrastructure, manage day-to-day technical resource allocations, and ensure the seamless delivery of academic, education, commercial, and art-tech initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Hub's master asset inventory, preventative maintenance schedules, and asset tracking systems for all state-of-the-art facilitates and equipment;
  • Act as the direct supervisor and Team Lead for the Hub's multi-disciplinary technical staff, driving daily task assignments, workflows, and performance standards; establish and enforce strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for venue usage;
  • Assist the Executive Director in aligning the Hub’s comprehensive technical capabilities with long-term academic curricula, high-level strategic programming, and institutional goals, managing operational budgets, evaluating equipment proposals, and handling the technical vetting for high-value equipment purchases, maintenance contracts, and upgrades;
  • Command the operational readiness and end-to-end setups across all flagship spaces, ensuring flawless coordination between the audio, filming/video, and physical staging pipelines; and
  • Undertaking other technical related duties and special assignments as required.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Music Technology, Electronic Engineering, Stage Management, Creative Media, or a related technology-management discipline;
  • A minimum of 7 years of solid, verifiable professional experience in a major commercial studio complex, major performing arts centre, or elite academic production venue. Proven experience in a technical crew lead, team supervisor, or management-track capacity is required;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record of managing technical teams, resolving operational friction on the ground, and translating complex engineering concepts into clear updates for senior management and non-technical stakeholders; and
  • Exceptional organisational discipline, with the agility to multi-task, manage tight production turnarounds, and dynamically adapt to changing institutional project priorities.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written and skills assessment.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract for up to 2 years.  Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
