As a Technical Lead, you'll bridge the gap between individual contribution and management, driving technical excellence while mentoring engineers and guiding architectural decisions. You'll work on systems that process millions of healthcare transactions, prevent fraud and abuse, and ultimately make healthcare more affordable and accessible for everyday Americans. 

Role Summary 

The Technical Lead Engineer is a hands-on technical leadership role combining deep software engineering expertise with mentorship responsibilities. You will lead by example in writing high-quality code, architecting solutions, and establishing engineering best practices while guiding junior and mid-level engineers in their technical growth. This position requires strong technical depth, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment. 

You'll work closely with Product Owners, architects, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications, make key architectural decisions, and ensure delivery of robust, scalable solutions. This role is ideal for a senior engineer ready to expand their impact through technical leadership and mentorship. 

Key Responsibilities 

Technical Leadership: 

• Lead the technical design and architecture of complex features and systems, making decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term maintainability 

• Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications and implementation plans 

• Conduct thorough code reviews ensuring adherence to coding standards, design patterns, and architectural principles 

• Provide technical oversight across the software development lifecycle from requirements gathering through production deployment 

• Identify and drive resolution of technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and architectural improvements 

• Establish and champion engineering best practices including code quality, testing strategies, and deployment processes 

Hands-on Development: 

• Design and develop complex application features using .NET, C#, and modern JavaScript frameworks 

• Build and optimize RESTful APIs and microservices architectures for high-performance, distributed systems 

• Develop sophisticated database solutions including stored procedures, optimization strategies, and data access patterns 

• Create responsive user interfaces using AngularJS, Angular, and React (supporting our ongoing framework migration) 

• Write comprehensive unit tests and implement test automation strategies to ensure code quality 

• Debug complex production issues and implement root cause solutions to prevent recurrence 

Mentorship & Collaboration: 

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance 

• Help team members clarify requirements, break down complex problems, and develop technical skills 

• Collaborate with architects, product managers, and other technical leads to align technical strategy 

• Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing within the team 

• Coordinate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery 

Required Qualifications 

Education & Experience: 

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience 

• 9+ years of professional software development experience with progressively increasing responsibility 

• Demonstrated experience in technical leadership or lead developer roles 

Technical Expertise: 

• Expert-level proficiency in .NET (Framework and Core/5+) with advanced C# programming skills 

• Strong experience with multiple JavaScript frameworks: AngularJS, Angular, and React (critical for supporting our technology evolution) 

• Advanced SQL Server expertise including complex query optimization, indexing strategies, and database design 

• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems patterns 

• Experience with message-based architectures using Kafka protocol systems (RedPanda, Kafka, or equivalent) 

• Comprehensive knowledge of design patterns, SOLID principles, and enterprise application architecture 

• Proficiency with unit testing frameworks (xUnit, NUnit) and test-driven development methodologies 

• Strong experience with version control systems (Git, Azure DevOps) and CI/CD pipelines 

• Experience with modern web technologies including HTML5, CSS3, XML, JSON, and Web APIs 

Preferred Skills & Technologies 

• AWS cloud services and architecture (EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, ECS, CloudWatch) - highly valuable for our ongoing migration 

• Microsoft Fabric and Azure data platform experience 

• Power BI for analytics and data visualization 

• Elasticsearch for search functionality and log aggregation 

• Playwright or similar automated testing frameworks 

• Redis caching strategies and distributed caching patterns 

• Microsoft Rules Engine or other business rules management systems 

• Container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) 

• Entity Framework, Dapper, or other ORM/data access frameworks 

• Performance profiling, application monitoring, and observability tools 

• Healthcare domain knowledge, HIPAA compliance, or experience in regulated industries

Leadership Scope 

While this is not a people management role with direct reports, Technical Leads are expected to provide technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle. You will serve as a technical mentor to team members, help define and clarify requirements, provide architectural guidance, conduct thorough code reviews, and make technical decisions that impact team success.
