Technical Communication Coordinator

 
SCC Inspection is seeking a highly motivated Technical Communication Coordinator to join our team in Great Falls, Montana.
This position combines hands-on inspection support with technical writing and specialized report development. The Technical Communication Coordinator will work directly alongside SCC inspectors in an active fabrication environment, assisting with project duties while learning the inspection processes, terminology, and technical requirements necessary to communicate the work accurately.
A significant responsibility of the position will be developing and producing technical reports for two SCC clients with projects occurring concurrently at a Great Falls fabrication facility. We are looking for someone with an interest in inspection and quality control who can understand specialized information, ask good questions, organize what they learn, and turn it into clear, accurate, professional communication.
The role is expected to remain in the Great Falls area for the foreseeable future but could ultimately include travel to job sites when necessary to fulfill project-specific technical requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities

• Work alongside SCC inspectors and assist with inspection activities as required.
• Assist with equipment, photographs, measurements, documentation, and other project-specific inspection duties.
• Learn SCC's nondestructive testing methods, terminology, procedures, and reporting requirements.
• Observe and learn about inspection and fabrication activities closely enough to accurately document the work being performed.
• Gather technical information from inspectors, drawings, photographs, specifications, notes, and project documentation.
• Develop clear, accurate, professional technical reports for SCC clients.
• Produce daily, progress, summary, and project-specific reporting as required.
• Work directly with inspectors to ensure technical information is communicated accurately and completely.
• Use generative AI tools effectively for technical writing, information organization, report development, and workflow improvement.
• Develop and refine prompts that produce useful, repeatable results for specialized technical reporting.
• Independently review and verify AI-assisted content before it is incorporated into project documentation.
• Work with Microsoft Office, PDF documents, photographs, drawings, reporting templates, and other technical communication tools.
• Help improve SCC's report formats, templates, and communication processes.
• Communicate professionally with inspectors, fabrication personnel, contractors, clients, and project leadership.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate should possess:

• Strong writing, editing, grammar, and communication skills.
• The ability to understand technical information and communicate it clearly.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Demonstrated proficiency with generative AI tools and prompt development.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new software and reporting systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and familiarity with Excel, PDF documents, photographs, drawings, and digital file management.

Preferred Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in technical writing, communications, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience in technical writing, construction, fabrication, inspection, engineering, quality, or another technical field is
• preferred.
• Previous experience producing specialized technical or client-facing reports is beneficial.
• Experience using generative AI tools as part of a professional writing, technical, or reporting workflow is preferred.

Work Environment

• This position includes regular work in an active fabrication facility in addition to computer-based technical reporting.
• The employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and assist with inspection activities.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Work may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, industrial equipment, changing temperatures, heights, confined areas, and
• other conditions associated with fabrication and inspection work.
