The day to day:

  • Define the technical vision – Partner with Product, Engineering, and external stakeholders to shape the next generation of WP Engine’s platform.

  • Architect at scale – Design, validate, and communicate macro-architectures, APIs, and high-performance distributed systems for engineering teams to build against.

  • Evaluate & implement technologies – Drive decisions on frameworks, platforms, and cloud infrastructure that power millions of websites worldwide.

  • Set best practices – Establish and champion modern engineering standards for reliability, observability, and maintainability.

  • Mentor and influence – Serve as a technical leader, fostering a high-performance engineering culture through coaching and knowledge sharing.

Your expertise and passion.

Minimum qualifications: 

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least one position in an architectural leadership role.

  • Experience designing RESTful APIs, GraphQL, or gRPC services in languages like Go, Python and Typescript.

  • Expertise in building and scaling distributed, high-availability cloud platforms on GCP, AWS, or Azure.

  • Hands-on experience with modern cloud architectures, including Kubernetes, containers and serverless computing

  • Proven ability to drive end-to-end technical decisions that impact performance, security, scalability, and cost.

  • Deep understanding of tradeoffs in cloud design, including cost vs. performance, security vs. usability, and latency vs. scalability.

  • Experience architecting CI/CD pipelines for large engineering teams working on multi-service, interconnected deployments.

  • Ability to lead complex technical discussions and communicate architectural decisions effectively across teams.

Preferred Experience: 

  • Prior experience working in high-traffic web environments with millions of users or high-volume APIs.

  • Familiarity with observability tools and site reliability engineering (SRE) best practices.

  • Experience in automating cloud deployments with Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.

  • Deep knowledge of security and compliance.

  • Strong WordPress experience, including plugin development
