We are seeking a versatile Senior Data Developer with advanced data engineering and analysis skills to join our Catastrophe Modeling team. The ideal candidate will excel in learning and adapting to new technologies, while possessing strong leadership and mentoring abilities. They will take a proactive approach in tuning, enhancing, and maintaining key applications while supporting team members in delivering high-quality data solutions. The successful candidate will have room to advance and help improve data processes and technical architectures across our catastrophe modeling and reinsurance operations.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Data Engineering and Integration:
- Design, build, and maintain comprehensive data sets from multiple source systems, including Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server, APIs, and Excel.
- Collaborate with IT and business units to ensure property exposure data is accurate, accessible, and enterprise-ready.
- Contribute to the design and enhancement of new data processes and architectures.
- Research and evaluate emerging tools and methodologies to improve data quality and workflows.
- Problem-solving skills, calm under pressure, and organized.
Leadership and Mentoring:
- Mentor team members and foster a supportive learning environment to enhance their technical and analytical skills.
- Take a participatory role in staff coaching and performance management.
Process Improvement and Technical Requests:
- Identify and address data quality issues, implementing solutions that improve overall reliability and performance.
- Develop technical requirements for program development, coding, and debugging, and contribute to test plans.
Strategic Communication:
- Provide actionable insights to senior management by understanding data challenges and business requirements.
- Document and communicate systems support issues clearly to end-users.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology or a related field.
Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in data engineering and/or technical analysis.
Technical Skills (Required):
- Strong SQL proficiency, and familiarity with Python or other programming languages.
- Experience with Snowflake, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and other database management systems.
- Proven data wrangling, ETL, and data quality skills.
Technical Skills & Domain Knowledge (Nice to Have):
- Familiarity with Informatica and Tableau.
- Knowledge of property insurance exposure data, reinsurance, and catastrophe modeling.
Leadership Skills:
- Strong mentoring and coaching abilities.
