With deep expertise, a forward-looking vision, and world-class practices in AI for Education, Future-Ready Workforce, Leadership Development, and Online Safety, IREX delivers innovative and proven solutions that help people, institutions, and communities thrive in a rapidly changing world.

About the Role

IREX seeks a Technical Advisor to provide technical leadership across digital safety, online safety, and cybersecurity-related programs and initiatives within the Global Impact Hub. The Technical Advisor will serve as a subject matter expert, helping government, corporate, civil society, and other community partners strengthen digital resilience, reduce online and digital risks, and participate safely and confidently in digital spaces.

The Technical Advisor will guide the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of projects and initiatives. The role will develop and adapt technical approaches, tools, training, and knowledge products; provide technical guidance to program teams and partners; help ensure the quality and relevance of IREX’s work; and manage defined program responsibilities, workstreams, budgets, or deliverables and provide guidance to staff, consultants, and partners. The role will also contribute to IREX’s external positioning and growth in online safety by representing IREX with donors, partners, and other stakeholders; translating evidence and program learning into practical technical approaches; and helping shape proposals, partnerships, and new initiatives.

 What You’ll Do
  • Technical Leadership and Quality: Serve as a subject matter expert in digital and online safety, providing technical direction to programs, projects, proposals, and organizational initiatives. Guide the design, adaptation, and quality assurance of technical approaches, curricula, tools, training, and other products, drawing on evidence, emerging practice, and the needs of different partners and communities.
  • Project Management: Lead or manage defined technical workstreams and contribute to the effective delivery of digital and online safety, and cybersecurity programs. Develop and oversee workplans, timelines, deliverables, reports, and other program products; identify and address implementation risks; and coordinate the people and resources needed to deliver high-quality work. May assume designated program-management responsibilities as needed, including but not limited to overseeing assigned budgets, consultants, agreements, or other resources and help ensure compliance with IREX policies and donor requirements.
  • Partner, Donor & Stakeholder Engagement: Build and manage effective working relationships with government, corporate, civil society, technical, donor, and community partners. Facilitate technical consultations, trainings, workshops, and briefings; represent IREX in external meetings and events; and communicate IREX’s approaches and experience clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Research, Learning & Technical Content: Monitor developments, evidence, and emerging needs in digital and online safety and translate them into practical recommendations for IREX programs and partners. Lead or guide the development of reports, presentations, training materials, knowledge products, and practical tools. Promote learning across teams by documenting and sharing effective practices, lessons, and emerging trends.
  • Growth & Business Development: Help identify and shape opportunities to grow IREX’s digital and online safety portfolio. Contribute to proposals and concept development, including program design, research, writing, review, partner engagement, donor presentations, and assessment activities. Translate evidence, program learning, and partner needs into compelling and feasible approaches. Help develop and deliver presentations and briefings for potential donors and partners.

At IREX, our culture is built on our people—and on how we work together to create meaningful impact every day. We look for colleagues who bring purpose, curiosity, collaboration, and a bias for action to help strengthen communities and advance our mission.

Successful candidates build trust across differences, move ideas into action, seek new perspectives, adapt to change, and represent IREX with authenticity and professionalism. We value people who bring strong expertise and a generous team spirit to work that advances our mission.

What You’ll Bring
  • At least eight years of progressive professional experience, including four to six years of subject-specific experience relevant to digital or online safety.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in one or more areas relevant to the role, such as online safety, digital resilience, technology-facilitated harm, digital risk management, cybersecurity awareness, responsible technology, or the design of safer digital environments.
  • Experience designing, adapting, or delivering online safety programs, technical-assistance approaches, training, curricula, tools, or other technical products for government, corporate, civil society, community, or other partners.
  • Experience providing technical guidance across programs or projects and translating technical knowledge, evidence, and emerging practices into practical recommendations for different audiences and operating contexts.
  • Experience managing complex projects or technical workstreams, including developing workplans, coordinating contributors, managing competing priorities, addressing implementation risks, and ensuring the quality and timely completion of deliverables.
  • Strong writing, editing, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Experience building and managing relationships with partners, donors, technical experts, consultants, and colleagues across different cultures, sectors, and areas of expertise.
  • Experience contributing to the technical strategy, design, and writing of proposals, concept notes, donor presentations, or other business-development efforts.
  • Experience mentoring and/or guiding the work of staff, consultants, partners, or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing or overseeing assigned budgets, consultants, agreements, or other project resources and ensuring adherence to organizational and donor requirements.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when working with sensitive topics, data, program information, or communities facing heightened digital and online risks.
  • A collaborative, adaptable, and solutions-oriented approach, with the ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and engage colleagues across technical, program, operational, and business-development teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Copilot.
  • A proactive and entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to identify emerging needs and opportunities, improve approaches, and translate ideas into action.
