Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Tech Lead, Platform Site Reliability Engineering to provide deep technical leadership across our Unix/Linux platform stack. This role is primarily an individual‑contributor position, responsible for driving reliability, automation, observability, and performance of mission‑critical Unix/Linux platforms.
Although this role does not directly manage a team, experience mentoring engineers, influencing technical direction, and guiding cross‑functional groups will be considered a strong advantage.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on engineer who thrives in complex infrastructure environments, embodies SRE principles, and consistently seeks to automate, optimize, and elevate platform reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Reliability & Operational Excellence
Ensure high availability, performance, and resilience of Unix/Linux platforms through proactive monitoring, tuning, and engineering improvements.
Lead major incident response efforts, drive root‑cause analysis (RCA), and implement long‑term corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Partner with L2/L3 teams to resolve escalated issues and minimize business impact.
Infrastructure Automation & Engineering
Design, build, and maintain automation for provisioning, configuration, lifecycle management, patching, and operational workflows.
Reduce manual toil by leveraging tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and scripting languages (Python, Bash, Perl).
Champion infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) practices and platform engineering best practices.
Observability, Monitoring & SRE Practices
Enhance observability using metrics, logs, traces, and alerting (Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, etc.).
Define, measure, and improve SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets to align service reliability with business goals.
Develop dashboards, runbooks, reliability indicators, and alerting mechanisms for early detection and rapid mitigation.
Performance, Scalability & Capacity Engineering
Conduct performance baselining, tuning, and benchmarking to ensure optimal system behavior.
Perform capacity analysis and forecasting to support growth and future scalability.
Security, Compliance & Platform Governance
Implement system hardening, patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance controls across the platform.
Collaborate with InfoSec teams to ensure adherence to internal and regulatory security standards.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
Act as a technical authority, guiding engineers and stakeholders in reliability engineering practices.
Mentor junior engineers informally, share knowledge, and uplift engineering standards.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (product, cloud, infra, security) to ensure platform reliability aligns with organizational priorities.
(People‑management experience is not required but is advantageous.)
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Maintain accurate technical documentation, runbooks, operational procedures, and architectural designs.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, stability, and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field.
Master’s degree (MSc) is an added advantage.
Professional Experience
Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar working capacity, with strong hands‑on SRE/Platform Engineering experience.
Proven experience handling large-scale Linux/Unix platforms.
Experience driving incident management, RCA, and permanent fix implementation.
Technical Skills
Strong expertise in Unix/Linux administration (RHEL, AIX, Solaris).
In‑depth understanding of OS internals, kernel parameters, file systems, process management, and performance tuning.
Proficiency in scripting and programming: Bash, Python, Perl, ksh, etc.
Hands‑on experience with automation frameworks (Ansible, Terraform).
Expertise with observability platforms (Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios).
Ability to define SLIs, SLOs, dashboards, alerts, and reliability metrics.
Experience with virtualization technologies, SAN infrastructure, backup/restore systems, and hardware architectures.
Knowledge of system hardening, patching strategies, and vulnerability remediation.
Familiarity with ITIL incident/problem/change management principles.
Exposure to cloud environments (AWS / Azure / GCP) and containers is a plus.
Working knowledge of DevOps tools & practices, including CI/CD, version control, pipeline automation, and collaborative engineering workflows.
Hands‑on skills with containerization technologies such as Docker.
Practical experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration, deployment, scaling, and cluster management.
Soft Skills & Competencies
Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset, especially for complex infrastructure issues.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills for multi‑team environments.
Ability to manage priorities, work independently, and operate under pressure.
SRE‑aligned mindset: automation‑first, reliability‑driven, data‑oriented.
Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation for critical systems.
Leadership traits (mentoring, technical guidance, influencing) beneficial.
