We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead to join the Core Infrastructure team in Toronto, Canada. This role involves taking ownership of Zip’s Kubernetes platform, observability and deployment tooling. You will partner with the Foundations teams in SF & Toronto to drive Zip’s multi-region expansion. We expect this role to expand and include people management responsibilities within 9 months.
You WillDefine and drive the mission, vision, and strategy for Zip's observability, reliability, and global expansion initiatives.
Mentor and guide a high-performing team of 4-5 engineers in the Toronto office, fostering their technical development.
Act as a hands-on contributor to the team’s core technical projects.
Establish and continuously refine processes to ensure excellence in execution and clear communication with stakeholders.
Collaborate with other engineering leaders in the Toronto office to support and scale the overall Toronto engineering team.
8 years of experience in software engineering.
Strong track record of leading teams of engineers on platform or infrastructure projects.
Hands-on expertise in building and operating large-scale systems, utilizing technologies like AWS, Datadog, Kubernetes, and other open-source solutions.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience with mentoring and developing other engineers.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field (e.g., Physics, Mathematics).
Successfully drove major re-architecture projects from initiation to completion.
Demonstrated effective collaboration with internal stakeholders across multiple time zones.
