Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as:

• Proven hands-on Tech Lead Designer experience 
• Experience working in an IT project environment and an understanding of IT and business strategies. Experience gained from outside the Bank can be very valuable particularly large organisations and/or suppliers or manufacturers.
• Must have specific technical knowledge in one or more aspects of the IT profession, i.e. technical design.
• The jobholder should be proficient in tools, techniques and services relevant to their knowledge area, with a broad awareness of those used throughout other areas.
• Should have a detailed understanding of the information technology services provided and a broad knowledge of Barclays Group products and services and understand how they all fit together.
• Strong knowledge and hands on experience of programming languages – Advanced Java, Restful API services, python programming languages
• Delivered projects with hands-on working knowledge using AWS, Mulesoft, DevOps deployment technologies
• Hands on development of quality (i.e. readable, performing and supportable) PL/SQL code on an Oracle database, NoSQL and Data Warehouse 
• Ability to work with an existing body of code (maintenance, feature additions, debugging, etc) and process Focused and make less dependent structures 
• Strong debugging skills to help resolve Complex queries, fine-tuning issue during development as well as in production
• Expertise in building and integrating with REST web services, API micro services 
• Experience in Financial Services or FinTech is a plus
• Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to find ways to overcome obstacles and self-teach new concepts
• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or similar.
